Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Three exciting runners are set to hit the track at Rosehill and Doomben on Wednesday, including a full sister to Lost And Running (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) and two well-bred daughters of I Am Invincible.

Rosehill Gardens, Race 1, 2.20pm AEDT, James Squire Plate, $60,000, 1200m

Paruna (NZ), 3-year-old filly (Per Incanto {USA} x Dreamlife {NZ} {Danroad})

Paruna (NZ), a daughter of Little Avondale’s stallion Per Incanto (USA), will make her second start over 1200 metres at Rosehill for Ciaron Maher after a promising debut fourth on the Randwick-Kensington track where she led up and only battled late in the piece.

The Kia Ora Stud-owned filly is the third foal from the Danroad mare Dreamlife (NZ), who only raced three times being unplaced. Dreamlife’s first foal and only other foal to race is the high-quality sprinter Lost And Running, he won over $4 million on the track and his wins included the G2 Premiere S., G3 Southern Cross S. and the Listed Luskin Star S. Dreamlife has a yearling colt by Per Incanto and was due to foal to the New Zealand Champion Sire Savabeel last spring.

Further back in the pedigree is Kaonic (NZ) (Savabeel) who was a good consistent black-type performer which included winning the Listed Furphy Plate. Paruna was a $340,000 purchase by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The promising filly is the third foal from the O’Reilly (NZ) mare Talaria (NZ), who was a Listed winner in New Zealand as a juvenile on debut. Talaria is a full sister to the Group 1-winning and promising young O'Reilly (NZ) stallion Brutal (NZ). This family has plenty of depth and other stakes performers within this family include Cavalry Rose (Charge Forward), Te Akau Rose (NZ) (Thorn Park) and Testarhythm (Testa Rossa).

Since producing Peschiera, Talaria has produced last spring an I Am Invincible filly and she was most recently served by Wootton Bassett (GB). Peschiera was a $700,000 purchase by Hawkes Racing, from the draft of Sledmere Stud at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Doomben, Race 4, 3.51pm AEDT (2.51pm local), Cascade Fillies and Mares Mdn Plate, $40,000, 1200m

Velozes, 3-year-old filly (I Am Invincible x Celestial Insight {USA} {Scat Daddy {USA}})

Doomben’s Wednesday meeting will serve as the starting point for the career of Velozes, a very well-bred daughter of I Am Invincible from the Tony Gollan stable. Velozes is by Australian Champion Stallion Sire in I Am Invincible, and also has a strong international pedigree with her damline full of influential stallions including Scat Daddy (USA), Falstaff (USA) and Fappiano (USA).
