Hastings, G1 Livamol Classic, NZ$250,000, 2040m
It was an exciting finish to one of New Zealand's best weight-for-age tests with Savy Yong Blonk (NZ) (Savabeel) having her nose out right where it counted.
A homebred for Gartshore Bloodstock, she had previously won two Group 3 races - with this success seeing her become her Waikato Stud-based high-class sire's 24th Group 1 winner.
One of the 16 stakes winners by Savabeel out of a Pins mare, Savy Yong Blonk is a full sister to the G2 Autumn Classic winner Adelaide Ace (NZ) (Savabeel) out of the unraced Ampin (NZ) (Pins) who was served last spring by Lonhro having not had a great deal of luck in recent seasons.
Bred on a 3 X 5 cross of Sir Tristram (Ire), Savy Yong Blonk is a granddaughter of the stakes-placed Ambitious (NZ) (Last Tycoon {Ire}) who produced - also by Savabeel - the G3 Gloaming S. winner Strike The Stars (NZ). Ambitious' dam is the dual Group 3-winner Starcent (NZ) (Centaine).
Hastings, G3 Red Badge Spring Sprint, NZ$80,000, 1400m
Having her first start since April, Two Illicit (NZ), by the Roselee Park, WA-based Jimmy Choux (NZ) did a good job recording her sixth win from just 14 starts and her fourth in stakes company.
One of her five-time Group 1-winning sire's four stakes winners, Two Illicit was bred by her owners - the Taylor family - with Trelawney Thoroughbreds. Her dam Gemini (NZ) (Tale Of The Cat {USA}) died in 2019 with her final foal being the unraced 3-year-old All Fired Up (NZ) (Turn Me Loose {NZ}).
Gemini is a half-sister to the G3 Maurice McCarten H. winner Easy Eddie (Super Easy {NZ}) from a high-class European family, one which has produced the Group 1 gallopers Reams Of Verse (USA) (Nureyev {USA}), Elmaamul (USA) (Diesis {GB}) and Midday (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}).
