Morphettville, G1 The Furphy Goodwood H., $502,250, 1200m

Race summary

Savatoxl (Kuroshio) surprised plenty in taking out this high-quality sprint feature. The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained galloper shot straight to the front from barrier two and proceeded to roll along at a strong speed. From there rider Barend Vorster sat pretty prior to letting down with a strong turn of speed and spacing his rivals en route to a commanding victory.

The Phillip Stokes-trained Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt) plotted a rails course under Jamie Kah and managed to finish a strong second ahead of the hard closing Gytrash (Lope De Vega {Ire}).

Dirty Work (Written Tycoon) finished fourth in his final career start before beginning his stud career at Spendthrift Stud.

Bred by Carrington Park Savatoxl was passed in for $14,000 at the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale after failing to meet his reserve price of $20,000. He is the fifth progeny of placed mare Li’l Miss Hayely (NZ) (Savabeel), who herself hails from the first dam line of G3 Manawatu Cup winner Perfect Start (NZ) (Perfectly Ready {NZ}).

Her most recent offspring is a filly birthed in 2019 by Needs Further. She is again in foal to the aforementioned stallion.

Savatoxl was the first winner for his sire Kuroshio when saluting in 2018. The Starfield Stud stallion has since been responsible for Group 3-winning filly Kurious (GB).

Doomben, Listed THRA Members’ H., $125,000, 1600m

Race summary

Reloaded (Snitzel) secured his second victory at start number 17 here. The Chris Waller-trained gelding settled down back in the field after stepping evenly into stride. From there McDonald proceeded to force the issue at the half mile taking off around the field and injecting some speed in the race. The pair turned for home the widest of all runners before working home strongly to hold off a fast-finishing Luvoir (Deep Field).

Right Or Wrong (Manhattan Rain) stepped up to the plate and ran a bold third, while Victorian raided Fabric (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) couldn’t stick on and knocked up into fourth.

Bred by Arrowfield Group, Reloaded was a $350,000 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Harras Syndicate and Mulcaster Bloodstock via the draft of Arrowfield Stud.

He is sixth survived progeny of dual Group 1 winner Hollow Bullet (Tayasu Tsuyoshi {Jpn}), making her a half-sister to Group 3 winner Red Hot Mama (General Nediym). His Champion sire Snitzel needs no introduction, having sired the likes of four-time Group 1 winner and now Widden Stud sire Trapeze Artist.

Morphettville, G3 David Coles AM S., $127,250, 1200m

Race summary

Godolphin galloper Heresy (Street Boss {USA}) broke her maiden status here at start number two. The James Cummings-trained galloper was gifted a superb ride by Damien Oliver settling down midfield. From there Oliver worked his mount off the back of eventual runner-up Karacasu (Headwater) en route to a convincing 0.5l success.

Local hope Magic Max (Magnus) rounded out the minors ahead of stablemate Knightstown (Valentina) who improved sharply off the back of his lacklustre last start showing.

A Godolphin homebred, Heresy is the fourth foal out of G3 Thoroughbred Breeders' S. winner Montsegur (New Approach {Ire}), who herself is a full sibling to G3 Kindergarten S. winner Paulele and a half-sister to G3 Canonbury S. winner Tessera (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}).

Doomben, G3 JRA Chairman’s Trophy, $150,000, 2000m

Race summary

Warning (Declaration Of War {USA}) scored his first victory since the 2019 G1 VRC Derby here. The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained galloper settled back in the field under Jim Byrne after jumping from barrier 11, and despite being set a task he savaged the line to score by the narrowest of margins in the shadows of the post.

The Chris Waller-trained So You Win (So You Think {NZ}) produced a career peak performance to finish a close second, while The Candy Man (Casino Prince) looked home for all money with 75 metres to run.

Bred by The Toorak Thoroughbred Breeding Trust, Warning was a $65,000 2018 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale purchase by Sam Freedman and de Burgh Equine via the draft of Mill Park Stud.

He is third survived foal out of dual winner Livia (Galileo {Ire}), who herself is out of the Group 2-placed Flying Spice (Flying Spur).

Livia’s most recent progeny to go through the ring is a colt by Free Eagle (Ire) who sold for $150,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. She is currently in foal to American Pharoah (USA).

Morphettville, G3 TAB Proud Miss S., $127,250, 1200m

Race summary

Brooklyn Hustle (Starspangledbanner) scored a long overdue success here under leading hoop Jamie Kah. The Jason Warren and Dean Krongold-trained mare settled down last in running before plotting an inside course when the field fanned out on straightening. From there Kah stuck to rail before unleashing her mount's turn of foot to pull clear of a hard closing Wild Vixen (Foxwedge) and Humma Humma (Denman). Locally trained galloper Smokin’ Val (Valentina) ran a big race in fourth.

Bred by and retained by Rosemont Stud, Brooklyn Hustle is out of American Listed winner, Joint Aspiration (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), making her a half-sibling to Listed winner Sopran Ival (Ire) (Ivawood {Ire}).

Doomben, G2 Spirit Of Boom Classic, $250,000, 1200m

Race summary

Prince Of Boom claimed the race named after his leading Queensland sire Spirit Of Boom on the six day back up. The Robert Heathcote-trained juvenile relaxed nicely under rising young hoop Ben Thompson before letting rip on straightening to extend away to a convincing margin, ahead of a commendable Invinsible Tears (Maurice {Jpn}) and Berdini’s Girl (Odyssey Moon).

Bred by Eureka Cambooya Thoroughbreds, Prince Of Boom was a $20,000 2020 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale purchase by Adrenaline Thoroughbreds. He is out of the 1400 metre winner Dazzling Display (Red Dazzler), who herself is a half-sister to G2 Queensland Guineas winner Express Air (Piccolo {GB}). G3 Concorde S. winner Ardrossan (Redoute’s Choice) features in her second dam line.

Dazzling Display currently has a yearling colt on the ground by Smart Missile while in foal to Defcon.

Prince Of Boom’s sire Spirit Of Boom currently stands at Eureka Stud in Queensland for $33,000 (inc GST). He is the sire of Group-performed mare Outback Barbie.

Morphettville, G3 TAB SA Fillies' Classic, $152,250, 2500m

Race summary

Victorian raider Mimi’s Award (Shamus Award) got the job done in fine fashion here and added a third consecutive win to her resume. The Lindsay Park-trained filly settled back in the capacity field under Daniel Stackhouse before looping the field and producing one of the widest on straightening. From there she continued to let down and went straight past the leading brigade to score from an improved Llanacord (NZ) (Contributer {Ire}) and Biarchi (Free Eagle {Ire}).

Bred by Love Racing, Mimi’s Award was a $15,000 2018 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase by Slade Bloodstock via the draft of Newgate Farm. She is the first foal out of the unraced Aunt Mimi (More Than Ready ({USA}), who herself is out of Listed winner and Group 2-placed Strawberry Field (Encosta De Lago). She also hails from the extended family of Listed winner Red Labelle (Blevic).

Aunt Mimi currently has a weanling on the ground by Menari while in foal to Flying Artie.

Mimi’s Award's G1 Cox Plate-winning sire Shamus Award continues to go from strength to strength, notching up another Group 1 winner with Media Award in the Australasian Oaks last fortnight.

Doomben, G3 Canadian Club Rough Habit Plate, $250,000, 2000m

Race summary

Criminal Defence (Nicconi) stunned his high-class rivals with a dominant victory here. The 3-year-old chestnut had only won once from 10 career starts prior to this event but jumped out of his skin to romp in under Michael Rodd.

The gelding was gifted a fantastic ride by Rodd who managed to find cover from barrier 16. From there he produced his mount and never looked back.

Trainer Chris Waller saddled up the next three past the line including Kukeracha (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), the well-fancied Senor Toba (Toronado {Ire}) along with Bucharest (Deep Impact {Jpn}) who produced an improved effort in fourth.

Bred by Gainsborough Lodge, Criminal Defence was passed in at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale after failing to meet his reserve of $30,000. He is the second survived progeny out of the unraced Red’s Image (Dehere {USA}), who herself is a half-sister to the dam of Listed-placed gelding Vincente (Econsul {NZ}). Her second dam line is littered with American black type.

Red’s Image hasn’t been served since throwing Criminal Defence in 2017.

Criminal Defence's sire is the ill-fated Champion producer Deep Impact (Jpn). Deep Impact’s legacy is carried on in Australia by his multiple Group 1-winning son Fierce Impact who now stands at Leneva Park Seymour for $16,500 (inc GST).

Race summary

Eduardo (Host {Chi}) notched up his second Group 1 this campaign with another display of front running excellence. After breaking quick into stride, the 7-year-old shot straight to the front and trucked along under Nash Rawiller at even splits before skipping clear on straightening. From there the gelding looked set to walk in to a convincing victory. However, his rivals flashed hard late with Wild Planet (Animal Kingdom {USA}) surging and missing narrowly on the line ahead of brave locals The Harrovian (Fastnet Rock) and Vega One (Lope De Vega {Ire}).

Bred in Victoria, Eduardo is the third and final foal out of unraced mare, Blushing (Fantastic Light).

Blushing’s grandam, Peggy Ann (NZ) (Bletchingly) won the G3 QTC Lightning H. and is out of G1 Rosemount Wines Classic, winner Avon Angel (NZ) (Avon Valley {GB}).

Eduardo is the only Group 1 winner by the ill-fated Chilean stallion and American Group 3 winner Host (Chi).

Doomben, Listed Magic Millions Bright Shadow S., $150,000, 1200m

Race summary

Outback Barbie (Spirit Of Boom) broke a long run of outs when saluting here. The Tony Gollan-trained mare was forced back in the field as a result of drawing barrier 16. However, she was the beneficiary of a well-timed ride by star hoop James McDonald and managed to get the bob in to nail last-start winner Intrepidacious (Shooting To Win) on the line. Blazing Miss (Sizzling) ran a bold third and finished ahead of the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Misteeed (Exceed And Excel).

She is the first foal out of Listed winner Pure Purrfection (General Nediym), who herself is out of Listed winner She’s Purring (Flying Spur).

Listed winner Ringside Lady (NZ) (Clay Hero) also features in her 2nd dam line.

She currently has a weanling filly by Spirit Of Boom on the ground while again in foal to him.

Morphettville, G3 R A Lee S., $152,250, 1600m

Race summary

Lord Vladivostok (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}) was able to outlast a quality rival in Dr Drill (GB) (Dansili {GB}) over the concluding stages to reign supreme here.

Drawn in barrier two the Michael Hickmott-trained galloper settled a few pairs back from the lead with cover. From there rider Todd Pannell proceeded to bide his time before finding a gap at the top of the straight. When asked to let down Lord Vladivostok extended and continued to fight all the way through the line.

Victorian-raider Vassilator (NZ) (Zacinto {GB}) was sound in third, while outsider of the field Oh Mo (Uncle Mo {USA}) ran a bold race in fourth.

Born in 2016 Lord Vladivostok is the final foal out of the unraced Soviet Lu (Soviet Star {USA}), who herself hails from the second dam line of R. Listed Inglis 2YO Millennium winner Prime Star (Starspangledbanner) and G3 Newcastle Gold Cup placegetter She’s Neat (Kinjite).

His ill-fated sire Tavistock (NZ) is a champion producer having sired seven individual Group 1 winners.

Morphettville, Listed Centaurea S., $107,250, 2014m

Race summary

In Good Health (Congrats {USA}) exerted her dominance here en route to a commanding 4l victory.

The Peter Moody-trained mare went straight to the front from barrier eight and never looked like being caught under Damien Oliver.

On straightening, Oliver sat pretty on his mount and gave her a few taps down the side to ensure she didn’t switch off, and from there she continued to extend away from her rivals under light riding.

Rank outsider Crimson Ace (Skilled) hit the line hard to finish a distant second ahead of Zayydani (NZ) (Savabeel) who was left with too much to do back in the field

The Cindy Alderson-trained She’s On Time (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) was next home in fourth.
