Looking Ahead - April 16

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Three runners will be running across Australia on Wednesday. Promising 2-year-olds by Tassort and Capitalist chase maiden success at Warwick Farm, and an Extreme Choice filly looks to break through at Doomben.

Scrumptious, 2-year-old filly (Tassort x Taste Of Money {Not A Single Doubt})

Warwick Farm’s Wednesday meeting, will be the venue for the fourth start of Scrumptious. This daughter of Tassort made her debut in the G3 Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick on October and ran a solid sixth. After having a break she has ran two very good seconds on the Kensington track, and she looks very close to a maiden victory.

The well-related filly is the fourth foal from the Not A Single Doubt mare Taste Of Money, who was a four-time winner on the track.

She has already left the very handy West Australian sprinter in Brave Strike (Brave Smash {Jpn}) who has been a two-time winner, and has managed to place in the G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes and picked up just under $250,000 in prizemoney.

Taste Of Money, since producing Scrumptious, has produced a yearling filly by North Pacific, and a weanling colt by Home Affairs, before she sadly died not long after foaling that colt.

Scrumptious was originally a $105,000 purchase by Emirates Park from the draft of Cannon Hayes Stud at the 2023 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale. She was then a successful pinhook when selling from the Emirates Park draft for $350,000 to Yes Bloodstock, Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA) and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Racing from the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Hidden Motive, 2-year-old colt (Capitalist x Secret Agenda {Not A Single Doubt})

The well-bred Hidden Motive (Capitalist) is set to have his second start at Warwick Farm over 1200 metres for trainer Nathan Doyle on Wednesday, he is running in this event, rather than the juvenile race at Kembla Grange on Tuesday where he was scratched. He made his debut in the G3 Breeders’ Plate back in October where he ran a brave fourth behind King Kirk (Ole Kirk).

After having a good break he looks to have come back well, winning trials at Muswellbrook and Newcastle in preparation for this maiden event.

His dam is Secret Agenda (Not A Single Doubt), who was an outstanding seven-time winner including at Group 1 level in the Robert Sangster Stakes, she also won another three Group races and a Listed event in her career.

Secret Agenda is also a sister to Star Pauline (Not A Single Doubt) who was Group-placed and a half-sister to another three stakes performers including Tutta La Vita (The Autumn Sun), Donandkim (Smart Missile), and Sweetener (Snitzel).

Since producing Hidden Motive, Secret Agenda has left a yearling colt by Home Affairs, and a weanling filly by Zoustar, before she sadly died in December last year.

Hidden Motive was purchased by Doyle Racing and Kurrinda Bloodstock for $120,000 from Cressfield at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Doomben, Race 1, 12pm AEDT, XXXX Sideline Beer Garden 3 May QTIS 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate, $40,000, 1200m

Barbieland, 3-year-old filly (Extreme Choice x Majestueux {Snitzel})

Barbieland, a daughter of the outstanding Extreme Choice, will make her third career start for trainer Stuart Kendrick at Doomben, over 1200 metres on Sunday.

She ran a very good second a the Sunshine Coast on debut on March 25 behind Wynette (Lonhro) and backed up that effort to run a tidy third at the same venue on April 6.

This promising filly is the third foal from the Snitzel mare Majestueux, who was only raced twice, she has already left Fil (Rebel Dane) and Dolly (Xtravagant {NZ}) who have both been winners.

Barbieland has some wonderful pedigree influences throughout her page including Redoute’s Choice, Hussonet (USA), Snippets, Montjeu (Ire), and Royal Academy (USA).

Since producing Barbieland, Majestueux has left a yearling colt by Farnan, a weanling colt by Dubious, and was served by Finance Tycoon last spring.

Barbieland has seen plenty of sales rings, she was originally purchased by Kacy Fogden Racing at the 2022 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, for $350,000 before graduating to the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale were Annabel Neasham Racing purchased her for $380,000.

Most recently she was purchased $17,000 by Officiating Syndicate, Queensland from the 2024 Inglis Digital December Sale.

Looking Back

Hayek (Capitalist) - ran an okay fourth on debut, he led up but faded late. He should improve off that effort.

Hidden Motive (Capitalist) - he is running on Wednesday at Warwick Farm rather than the Kembla Grange event on Tuesday where he was scratched.
