The stars are here! The highly anticipated catalogue for the 2025 Inglis Chairman’s Sale has finally been released, and can be viewed online. Hailed as an “out of this world” selection, the catalogue features 87 lots that include 64 stakes-performing or stakes-producing mares, half-sisters to the nation’s leading stallion prospects, and the dams of some of our most elite performers.

“What a night May 8 is going to be!’’ Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch said. “We have tremendous confidence in this sale and worked to build it into a night that is a celebration of the very best fillies and mares, which is exactly what the sale is going to be this year.”

The 2025 catalogue packs a serious punch; 73.6 per cent of the catalogue are either stakes horses or stakes producers, 37 mares are offered in foal - of which 18 went into foal on their first or second cover - and 29.9 per cent of the catalogue boasts Danehill (USA) free pedigrees.

“The Chairman’s Sale provides a rare opportunity for the world’s leading breeders to acquire the best breeding stock going to public market this year,” Hutch continued. “We’re exceptionally proud of the catalogue and very grateful for the support that we have been afforded by all involved.”

Quick turnaround on investment

With 37 mares in foal to 24 different stallions entered in the sale, buyers can expect to see a return on investment as quickly at the 2026 weanling sale series, or the 2027 yearling sales. The whole breadth of Australasia’s top end stallions are on offer - and there is an international flavour to the selections as well, with a mare each in foal to former shuttlers Justify (USA) and Too Darn Hot (GB).

Twin Hill Stud will offer Lot 50, Crimson Coronet (GB), a winning daughter of leading Australian sire Zoustar, in foal to Too Darn Hot on an early September cover. A daughter of Listed Chalice Stakes winner Crimson Rosette (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) from a page littered with black-type, she is one of just a handful of mares in the country in foal to the Darley stallion, who has nine stakes winners in Australia already from just two crops to race.

Widden Stud likewise offer an exciting prospect in Lot 31, April Vintage (USA) (Vino Rosso {USA}), in foal on a September cover to global sensation Justify (USA), whose electric son City Of Troy (USA) will shuttle to Coolmore’s Jerry Plains base for the 2025 breeding season.

A stakes-placed dual winner in her first year at stud, April Vintage comes from an active stakes-performing family that features G3 Canadian Derby winner Abeliefinthislivin (USA) (Arrogate {USA}) and dual Group 1-winning stallion Mshawish (USA), whose shuttle season to Australia yielded the dual Group winner Wishlor Lass - who will herself be offered in this sale as Lot 23 by Newington Farm Premium Consignment.

There are also four mares in foal to G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Ozzmosis and one mare offered in foal to G1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner Shinzo, who himself came through this sale.

“In recent years each of the two most recent colts to win the G1 Golden Slipper, Shinzo and Stay Inside, have been sold in utero at the Chairman’s Sale,” Hutch said. “While buyers have (also) found the dams of superstars like Imperatriz, Home Affairs, In Italian, She’s Extreme, Shout The Bar and many others, and there is little doubt that this year’s catalogue will be a source of further top-class winners in the future.”

Glastonbury Farm offer Lot 71 in foal to Shinzo; Ishani (I Am Invincible) is a half-sister to G2 Skyline Stakes winner O’President (Fastnet Rock), out of outstanding New Zealand mare O’Marilyn (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}), winner of the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes as well as being a half-sister to G1 Caulfield Guineas-winning stallion Anacheeva.

Amongst the other 30 on offer, there is the opportunity to buy mares in foal to Champion Sires I Am Invincible and Snitzel, industry headliners such as Zoustar, Capitalist, and Written Tycoon, and rising stars such as Farnan and Ole Kirk.

Continued racetrack success

For the buyer looking for a race filly or a mare at the beginning of her breeding journey, they will be happy to note that 76 lots are 10 years or younger, accounting for 87.4 per cent of the catalogue. The Chairman’s Sale has been a lucrative hunting ground in recent years for young mares; $2.2 million Chairman’s graduate Kimochi (Brave Smash {Jpn}) has since added the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes to her record.

In addition, $3.4 million purchase Montefilia (Kermadec {NZ}) won the G2 Hill Stakes, and $300,000 graduate Eagle Nest (Shalaa {Ire}) has since won both the Listed Starlight Stakes and the G3 Maurice McCarten Stakes. She will be offered in this year’s catalogue by Newgate Consignment as Lot 54.

Among the fillies who could race on in new colours are $1.6 million earner Semana (Winning Rupert), Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Too Darn Lizzie (Too Darn Hot {GB}), G2 Guy Walter stakes winner Hell Hath No Fury (Hellbent), and the 3-year-old Castanya (Capitalist), who was tenacious enough as a juvenile to win the Listed Lonhro Plate.

“The recent racetrack success of fillies and mares after they were purchased at Chairman’s recently has also been very appealing,” Hutch said.

Eight lots will be offered by the Ciaron Maher team, including headline act Bella Nipotina (Pride Of Dubai), as Lot 35, alongside a bevy of mares sold as racing and breeding propositions, including the already announced five-time stakeswinner I Am Me (I Am Invincible), Group 2-winning sprinter Estriella (I Am Invincible), G1 Goodwood Handicap victress Royal Merchant (Merchant Navy), and Futatsu (Shalaa {Ire}), a winning half-sister to Arrowfield Stud freshman sire Hitotsu.

I Am Me and Estriella could both update their pages further ahead of the sale, as both currently hold nominations for G1 TJ Smith Stakes this weekend.

Regally bred relations

Beyond the racetrack stars, there are plenty of opportunities to buy into some of Australasia’s best families.

As well as G1 South Australian Derby winner Coco Sun (Lot 48) on offer from Sledmere Stud, Tyreel Stud present her dam Miss Hufflepuff (Encosta De Lago), carrying a positive pregnancy to Group 1-producing sire So You Think (NZ), as Lot 82. Her current 2-year-old So Enchanting (So You Think {NZ}) was a $240,000 graduate of last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, and is in the stable of renowned conditioners Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

Another exciting offering is Lot 41 from Alma Vale Thoroughbreds; Californiasurprise (I Am Invincible) is offered in foal to dual Group 1-winning Artorius, whose first weanlings reach the sales ring days before the Chairman’s Sale.

An Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate in the first stages of her broodmare career, Californiasurprise has already produced the NZ$500,000 yearling and G3 Blue Diamond Prelude (colts & geldings) winner Field Of Play (Deep Field), who continues his promising career in Hong Kong. Her Stay Inside yearling filly was purchased for $300,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January by astute judge Grahame Begg and Rohan Hughes.

Not to be missed is Enbihaar (Magnus), the dam of Too Darn Lizzie selling in foal to Zoustar, Whatalovelyday (Domesday), the dam of G1 Goodwood Stakes-winning Benedetta (Hellbent) in foal to Zoustar on a September cover, and Chateau Griffo (Sebring), the dam of G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Griff (Trapeze Artist), carrying a three-quarter sibling by Snitzel.

The evening of May 8 will kick off in style with a particularly special offering from Segenhoe Stud; one share in Bivouac, whose first crop of 2-year-olds so far include G2 Silver Slipper Stakes winner Beiwacht and G2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes winner Intention.

Inglis advises that hard copies of the catalogue will be released in two weeks' time. Supplementary entries for the auction and for the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale that takes place the following day will remain open until April 24.

“I encourage you to get in touch with a member of the bloodstock team as soon as possible and join what will be a memorable night both in and out of the sale ring,” Hutch said. It is easy to agree with him when he refers to the 2025 Inglis Chairman's Sale catalogue as "out of this world".
