Looking Ahead - March 29

Looking Ahead highlights runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are an exceptionally well-bred or high-priced runner early in their career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse that has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Two exciting runners are set to hit the track across Australia on Saturday. At Rosehill, a promising Grunt (NZ) colt chases Group 3 success, and a Written By filly debuts at the Gold Coast.

Nepotism, 2-year-old colt (Brutal {NZ} x Brigite {Casino Prince})

Nepotism, a very promising son of Brutal (NZ), will be making his second start at in the G3 Bailleu for local trainer’s Michael, John, and Wayne Hawkes. He ran a great race at his first start at Randwick, when running third in the G2 Todman Stakes, behind Tentyris (Street Boss {USA}), and Wodeton (Wootton Bassett {GB}). That form looks even better now, as Wodeton just missed Golden Slipper glory last weekend, when running a slashing second.

The well-bred colt, is the second foal from the unraced Casino Prince mare Brigite. She is very well-related, being a half-sister to the Champion Black Caviar (Bel Esprit), who was the unbeaten winner of twenty-five races including fifteen Group 1 races. All Too Hard, who was the Champion 3YO Colt in Australia, is a full brother, he won seven times including the G1 All Aged Stakes, G1 Caulfield Guineas, G1 CF Orr Stakes, and the G1 Futurity Stakes.

She is also a half-sister to the unraced Naturale (Bel Esprit), who has left the dual Group 1-winning stallion Ole Kirk, and the Group 3-winning Gimmie Par (Not A Single Doubt).

Brigite, has unfortunately had no luck at stud, since producing Nepotism, and has yet to produce another live foal, and missed to Toronado (Ire) last spring.

Nepotism was a $160,000 purchase, by International Thoroughbred Solutions (FBAA), from the draft of Gilgai Farm at the 2024 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Aquis Park Gold Coast, Race 3, 6.35pm AEDT (5.35pm local), Blue Wave KB Seafood Maiden Handicap, $30,000, 1000m

Hey Daisy, 3-year-old filly (Written By x Miss Sav {Pierro})

The Paul Shailer-trained Hey Daisy (Written By), will make her debut over 1000 metres at the Gold Coast on Saturday. She has looked pretty handy at the trials, and won her last one at Beaudesert, very impressively by 5.3l over 1050 metres.

Hey Daisy is the first foal from the Pierro mare Miss Sav, who was a winner over 1600 metres, and she is a three-quarter-sister to the stakes placed, four-time winner Scorsese (Written By).

Miss Sav, is well-related being out of Hollyweird (Snitzel), who was a three-time winner, and managed placings in the Listed Heritage Stakes, G3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes, and the Listed Chairman’s Stakes.

Since producing Hey Daisy, Miss Sav has left a Brutal (NZ) yearling filly, and was most recently served by Armory (Ire) last spring.

Hey Daisy was purchased by Shailer Racing from the 2023 Inglis Digital April Sale for $30,000

Looking Back

Telling (Graff) - got the job done, and gained deserved maiden success at Muswellbrook.

Central Bank (NZ) (Ten Sovereigns {Ire}) ran a good second at Cranbourne, Foxenberg (Foxwedge) the hot favourite, was just a touch strong for him late.

Signoretti (NZ) (Hello Youmzain {Fr}) - ran a nice second at Cranbourne, he is still a bit green, so should only improve again off that effort.
