A boutique broodmare farm in Murchinson, Victoria, Collingrove Stud has been emerging over the last few years as a producer of quality stock and talented racehorses. In 2022, the farm celebrated their first stakes winner courtesy of Listed Geelong Classic-winning graduate Grand Pierro (Pierro), and last year their hard work was further rewarded with the top flight exploits of Victor the Winner (Toronado {Ire}) in taking out the G1 Centenary Sprint Cup in Hong Kong. Other recent graduates include impressive juvenile Flemington winner Scheelite (Real Steel {Jpn}), who defeated future G3 Begonia Belle Stakes winner Isthmus (I Am Invincible), and eight-time winner Station One (Toronado {Ire}).
The team returns to the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale this year with a draft of eight yearlings sired by a range of sought after stallions, including Group 1-producing sire Tassort, and second season sires King’s Legacy and Hanseatic, whose offspring are making an impact on the track already.
Lot 33 - King’s Legacy x Muchas Coronas (Onemorenomore) (filly)
This filly is the second foal from dual-winning mare Muchas Coronas (Onemorenomore), a half-sister to the precocious Ef Troop (Spirit Of Boom), whose six wins include the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes and the Listed Christmas Handicap. She was also second in the G2 Todman Stakes, where he was beaten just 0.2l by Aylmerton, and had additionally run fourth in Sunlight’s (Zoustar) R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic at his previous start. The winner of over $1 million in prizemoney, he was one of Queensland’s handiest sprinters during his career, running in four consecutive $1 million Magic Millions QTIS Opens and placing in two of them.
The pedigree crosses the Pacific to have its roots in American racing, with this filly descending from G2 Rare Perfume Stakes winner Topicount (USA) (Private Account {USA}). This makes her a relation to 14-time winner and G3 Winning Colors Stakes victress Honey Bunny (USA) (Tapizar {USA}), and G3 Appleton Stakes winner Dr Edgar (USA) (Lookin At Lucky {USA}).
Muchas Coronas’ first foal Happy Boys (Capitalist) was a $90,000 graduate of this sale two years ago, and has made his way to Hong Kong, where he is in the stable of leading trainer Mark Newnham. Sire King’s Legacy has had a cracking start to his stud career with his first 2-year-olds, having had several pre-Christmas triallers and, exciting, four winners from nine to race, including Listed Cinderella Stakes-placed Steel Trap and G2 Matamata Breeders Stakes placegetter Born To Be Royal. Impressive metropolitan winner Open Secret advances to the G3 Magic Night Stakes this weekend after a credible sixth - by only 1.8l - in the G2 Sweet Embrace Stakes.
Redoute’s Choice, sire of King’s Legacy, over Red Ransom, sire of Onemorenomore, mares has an excellent strike rate of 14 per cent stakes winners to runners.
Lot 87 - Rich Enuff x Redan Lane (Flying Spur) (colt)
This strapping colt is a close relation to Group 3-winning sire Anders, whose first juveniles hit the track this season, and $1 million-earning, Listed Queensland Day Stakes winner Ostraka (Pariah); his dam Redan Lane (Flying Spur) is a half-sister to their dam Madame Andree (War Emblem {USA}). The family is very current and on the move, as another of Madame Andree’s offspring Madame Pauline (Redoute’s Choice) is the dam of exciting 2-year-old Skyhook (Written Tycoon), who ran second in the G2 Skyline Stakes and lines up for the G3 Pago Pago Stakes this Saturday, with another chance to enhance the pedigree.
There is plenty of early ability nearby in the family that this mature-looking colt looks ready to take after; other close relations include G3 Ottawa Stakes placegetter Satin Love (Snitzel), Red Samurai who was a winner on debut as a 2-year-old, and Anders was of course a dual winner at two before his stakes successes early in the spring of his 3-year-old season. Group 2-placed relation So Glamorous (So You Think {NZ}) added a further string to her bow recently with a second placing in the G3 Mannerism Stakes behind G1 Coolmore Classic entrant Coeur Volante (NZ) (Proisir).
Redan Lane’s first foal Same To You (Mikki Isle {Jpn}) has been a dual winner this season and placed several times in Hong Kong for Mark Newnham, where he has accumulated over HK$1.3 million ($268,000) in stakes, and her second foal was placed on debut in provincial company in New South Wales. This colt is VOBIS Silver and VOBIS sire registered so purchasers will be able to access hundreds of thousands in lucrative bonus prizemoney and vouchers while racing within Victoria. Rich Enuff is the sire of nine stakes winners and a further three stakes performers across South Australia, Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia, and currently performs at 71 per cent winners to runners.
Lot 104 - Nicconi x Royal Singer (Royal Academy {USA}) (colt)
Another well-built son of five-time winner and excellent producer Royal Singer (Royal Academy {USA}), this colt is a half-brother to five winners from seven of the mare’s offspring to rare. His siblings include the 10-time winner McCormick (Sebring) and five-time winner Southern Front (Manhattan Rain), who has a speedy 55 Second Challenge heat victory amongst his wins.
Third dam Performing Arts (Ire) (The Minstrel {Can}), who was third in the G1 Irish One Thousand Guineas and the G3 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, is the source of a lot of speed and talent in this family. Thanks to her, this colt is a close relation to G2 Illinois Derby winner Performing Magic (USA) (Gone West {USA}) and G3 Anglesey Stakes winner Woodborough (USA) (Woodman {USA}), as well as dual Group 3 winner Fancy Cruz (USA) (Giacomo {USA}). Through her half-sister Adagio (USA) (Monteverdi {Ire}), this is also the extended family of G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Uncommon James (Cable Bay {Ire}) and G1 Levin Classic winner Southern Lord (Stratum).
The sire of 29 stakes winners and 27 stakes performers, Nicconi is one of Victoria’s most robust, value for money sires, operating at a 73 per cent winners to runners ratio. He has sired four winners from six offspring out of Royal Academy (USA) mares, led by Elegant Queen, who has accumulated nearly $200,000 in prizemoney across her nine wins and 10 placings. This colt is VOBIS Silver and VOBIS sire registered, so purchasers will be able to access hundreds of thousands in lucrative bonus prizemoney and vouchers while racing within Victoria.
Lot 120 - Tassort x Sessantesimo (Flying Spur) (filly)
An attractive filly by star sire Tassort, this lot is a half-sister to three winners including Hong Kong performer Storming Dragon (Star Turn), winner of over HK$3.26 million ($666,000) in prizemoney to date. He was a $330,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale graduate where he was purchased by trainer Jamie Richards and Andrew Williams Bloodstock. Another half-sister Grandellie (Rubick) just collected her second win in South Australia earlier this year.
Excitingly, her dam Sessantesimo (Flying Spur) is a full sister to Traveston Girl, a dual Listed winner who was second in the G1 Thousand Guineas to multiple Group winner Amicus (Fastnet Rock). Go one step further back, and their Milande (Dehere) is a full sister to Defier. A winner of 10 races, four of which were in succession, Defier was victorious in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the G1 George Main Stakes, and the G1 Doomben Cup. He was courageously second twice in the G1 Cox Plate to the greats Northerly (Serheed {USA}) and Fields Of Omagh (Rubiton). A great racehorse appears to come around every generation in this family; could this filly be the one?
From small numbers to the track, Tassort has his Group 1-winning daughter Manaal and Group 2-winning daughter Ameena, as well as three stakes performers - of the five total, four of them are fillies. His juveniles came flying out of the gates last season, and this filly looks like she could be quick off of the mark too. Flying Spur mares mix well with Brazen Beau, sire of Tassort, with 16 per cent stakes winners to runners from limited numbers. Other sons of Danehill marry equally well with Brazen Beau, particularly Exceed And Excel; together they have produced 19 winners from 21 to run.
Lot 134 - I Am Immortal x Sienna Sunrise (NZ) (Bertolini {USA}) (colt)
This colt is a half-brother to seven winners, from Sienna Sunrise’s (NZ) (Bertolini {USA}) eight to hit the track, which bodes well for his promising future. The best of his immediate family has to be Ponte Roma (Pins), who was a dual metropolitan winner and also is the dam of G2 Blue Diamond Prelude (fillies) runner-up Party For Two (Sidestep). A four-time winner and several times placed at Listed and Group level since, Party For Two (Sidestep) has taken home almost $680,000 in prizemoney to date. She may provide another update to the pedigree this weekend, when she lines up for the $125,000 Military Rose on Saturday.
Dam Sienna Sunrise brings more quality to the page with her half-brother San Bernardino (NZ) (Gold Mine {USA}), whose four wins were all at stakes level; chief amongst his wins is the G3 Stewards’ Stakes, alongside three Listed victories. He was also third in the G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes behind Champion New Zealand 2YO Il Quello Veloce (NZ) (Captain Rio {GB}). Further out in the family is Katie Lee (NZ) (Pins), a dual Group 1 winner, and Brad Widdup’s talented dual Group 3-winner gelding Phearson (Exosphere). Katie Lee is the grandam of G1 Eskimo Prince winner Public Attention (NZ) (Written Tycoon).
Another VOBIS nominated lot, this colt is from the third crop of foals by I Am Immortal, the sire of 14 winners and the stakes-performed Immortal Star, who was a narrow second in the Listed Redoute’s Choice Handicap. His debutante winner son McGaw lined up for the $1 million VOBIC 2YO Plate this Saturday, buoyed by his 3.5l victory at Pakenham.
Lot 191 - Fierce Impact (Jpn) x Under The Stars (Snitzel) (filly)
A daughter of unraced Snitzel mare Under The Stars, this filly descends from the beautiful family of G1 Emirates Stakes winner Sky Cuddle (Snippets), dam of Champagne Cuddles (Not A Single Doubt), winner of the G2 Breeders’ Classic and second in the G1 Golden Rose Stakes. This is a pedigree littered with well-performed fillies and mares; this filly’s second dam is therefore dual Group 3-winning Sky Love (Octagonal {NZ}), and her other close relations feature Listed Reginald Allen Handicap winner A Lot More Love (Sebring) and G2 Shannon Stakes winner Amor Victorious (Caravaggio {USA}). The latter broke through at Group 2 level in the spring, having previously finished close behind subsequent dual Group 1 winners Tom Kitten (Harry Angel {Ire}) and Ceolwulf (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}).
That is not to forget about G3 Nivison Stakes winner Sky Command (Deep Field), who was unbeaten as a juvenile and defeated the likes of Group 3 winners Larkspur Run (Shamardal {USA}) and Heresy (Street Boss {USA}) in her stakes victories, as well as handy sprinter Dragonstone (Mikki Isle {Jpn}). Her half-brother Voyage Samurai (Dissident) continues to fly the flag in Hong Kong, with over HK$5.56 million ($1.14 million) in earnings.
Under The Stars’ only foal to race Lunartie (Fly Angel) was placed on debut before winning at Scone’s competitive track at his second start. Fierce Impact’s first juveniles hit the track this racing season, and while he has only had two runners to date, one is already a winner; his daughter Zelia was already a trial winner before Christmas and broke her maiden in style in January at metropolitan level.
Lot 249 - Royal Meeting (Ire) x Ashima (Olympic Glory {Ire}) (colt)
This colt comes from another exciting family, as his dam Ashima (Olympic Glory {Ire}) is a half-sister to R. Listed Inglis Banner 2YO Stakes winner Crack A Roadie (Charge Forward) and a name that may be familiar to the Adelaide audience, Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes winner Road Trippin’ (Charge Forward). Runner-up in the $250,000 Inglis 2YO Premier and the G2 Sires’ Produce Stakes behind All Too Hard, the gelding collected six wins on South Australia and Victoria for Murray Bridge’s Stephen Theodore, and earned over $400,000 across his career. He earned himself a crack at the G1 Caulfield Guineas, where he finished fifth, again behind the likes of All Too Hard, Pierro, and Epaulette.
Further back, and this is an exciting international family of versatile performers. Second dam Road To Damascus (Flying Spur) is a half-sister to G1 International Stakes winner Bluebird The Word (Bluebird {USA}) and the influential Porto Roca (Barathea {Ire}), the dam of Champion UAE Older Male Monterosso (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and the dams of several stakes winners, including G1 William Reid victress Silent Sedition (War Chant {USA}), who was a $1.5 million broodmare acquisition for Katsumi Yoshida at the close of her dazzling racing career.
This is an exciting opportunity to tap into one of the finest families in the studbook, by purchasing such a close relation to multiple stakes performers. Olympic Glory (Ire) is only just getting started as a broodmare sire, with 12 winners to date, averaging 2 wins each, whereas his sire Choisir mixes well with the Invincible Spirit (Ire) line; this is the same cross as Group 1-winning In Secret (I Am Invincible), a cross that currently performs at 18 per cent stakes winners to runners.
Lot 302 - Hanseatic x Comearoundsundown (Not A Single Doubt) (colt)
A colt by Rosemont Stud’s exciting young sire Hanseatic, this lot has had an exciting pedigree update recently, thanks to his dam’s half-brother Galaxy Patch (Wandjina), who added a second placing in the G1 Steward’s Cup in Hong Kong to his record since the catalogue went to print. Three times a Group winner and Champion 4YO in Hong Kong, Galaxy Patch has had a fruitful career to date, with almost HK$28.5 million ($5.8 million) in earnings so far. He is one of three stakes performers for his dam, along with Listed performer Creativity (Master Of Design), a winner of four metropolitan races, and this lot’s dam, five-time winner Comearoundsundown (Not A Single Doubt).
Second dam Voltara (More Than Ready {USA}) was an exceptional producer; all eight of her offspring to race were winners, and six were multiple winners. She herself was a half-sister to eight winners, including the stakes performers Lucky Double Eight (Stratum), talented in Hong Kong but also a dual juvenile winner at Flemington and second in the G2 Danehill Stakes, and dual Listed-placed Mr President (Xaar {GB}). In fact, third dam Duchess Cara (Quest For Fame {GB}) has a total of 24 winners directly descending from her, and this colt could be one of the next.
Hanseatic has had a flying start to his career at stud, with two stakes performers and two winners to his name already. He nearly had a third stakes performer when his daughter Tiz Worthy just missed out on the placings in the Listed Cinderella Stakes. Rohesia, who was third in the R. Listed Inglis Banner 2YO Stakes, and winner Befuddle line up again on Saturday in the $1 million VOBIC 2YO Plate for a chance to extend his record. His sire Street Boss (USA) has been enjoying enormous success with his juveniles this season, having sired the winners of both the G2 Todman Stakes and the G2 Reisling Stakes last weekend, so it stands to reason that a son of his would on this precocity. That should be particularly true of Hanseatic, who won the first two legs of the Blue Diamond series, only to be denied by just 0.2l in the Group 1 finale. This is another VOBIS Silver and VOBIS Sires registered lot, which makes this colt an exciting prospect for buyers looking to race in Victoria.
