Extractor impresses in third place return
Bellazaine (Zousain) led home a juvenile trial by a wide margin at Randwick on Tuesday, but third place finisher Extractor (Spirit Of Boom) showed some serious work late when going toe-to-toe with second-placed finisher Rivellino (Too Darn Hot {GB}) to shorten the filly’s lead to 1.6l at the line. Trained by Michael Freedman, Extractor finished third in North England’s (Farnan) $1 million Golden Gift on debut in the spring.
Bred by Eureka Cambooya Thoroughbreds, Extractor was a $300,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for Gandharvi and Michael Freedman Racing. He is third living foal from five-time winner Assertory (Not A Single Doubt), half-sister to multiple stakes-placed Magic Jet (Magic Albert) from the family of 10-time winner and Listed Ascot Gold Cup victor Cat In A Hat (Gold Fever). She has a yearling full brother to Extractor, who was purchased at the Gold Coast this year by Brett Dodson for $120,000, and she revisited Spirit Of Boom in the spring.

Top shelf Harron boys reload ahead of big autumn targets
A pair of well bred 2-year-olds bearing the hunter green and gold epaulettes of James Harron won their respective trials at Randwick on Tuesday morning. The Peter Snowden-trained Gambler (Capitalist), who was last seen in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial in October, has returned as a gelding in smashing style, beating Portofino (I Am Invincible) by a resounding 6.1l in his heat.

In the next trial, Anarchist (Exceed And Excel), who won a trial earlier this month for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable, led all the way to win by 1.15l over the improving Wootton Lass (Wootton Bassett {GB}).
Bred by Love Racing, Henderson Racing And Breeding, and G1G Racing & Breeding, Gambler was a $360,000 purchase for the James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He is the fifth foal from G2 Blue Diamond Prelude (fillies) placegetter Flamboyant Lass (Stratum), whose other offspring include Listed Talindert Stakes-placed Nitrous (Deep Field), who has cracked HK$4.56 million ($940,000) in earnings under the name Circuit Seven, and four-time winner Command Approved (Spirit Of Boom), who was fourth in the R. Listed Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Flamboyant Lass has a yearling colt by Home Affairs, who was purchased at the Gold Coast earlier this month for $270,000 by Mick Price Racing & Breeding, Roll The Dice Racing and Rogers Bloodstock. She delivered filly foal by Stay Inside in the spring, and returned to the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes winner in November.
Bred by Barneswood Farm, Anarchist was a $550,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase for James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership from the draft of Sledmere Stud. He is the first foal out of G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner Media Sensation (I Am Invincible). The mare has a yearling filly by Snitzel, who is Lot 52 in Sledmere’s Easter draft this year, and a colt at foot by Zoustar to come, and she made a return visit to Snitzel in November.
Well bred Farnan filly winds up for raceday debut
A half-sister to G3 Chairmans Stakes winner Sebonack (Capitalist), Profoundly (Farnan) won a second trial in fine style at the Gold Coast with a 1l trial win over Secret Rose (Flying Artie). The Lee Freedman-trained filly won her debut trial at the end of December by a 1.5l margin over Lettie’s Lot (Harry Angel {Ire}), who finished eighth in the $500,000 Magic Millions The Debut on Magic Millions race night earlier this month.
Sebonack sets a precedent for this precocious filly, winning the Chairmans on debut before running fourth in Daumier’s G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, only beaten 1.15l.

Bred by Mrs A Caldwell, Profoundly was offered by Sledmere Stud at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where she was purchased by Dlf Racing Services racing for $65,000. Her half-sister by Stay Inside attracted the bid of Bjorn Baker Racing and Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA) at the Gold Coast this month, where they ultimately paid $360,000 for the filly.
Dam Profound Wisdom (Al Samer) is a dual-winning half-sister to Highview Stud’s Santos and G3 Nakayama Yukan Fuji Sho Ocean Stakes winner Melagrana (Fastnet Rock). The family also features 18-time winner Jivago (Snaadee {USA}) and 13-time winner and G1 Newmarket Handicap victor Shaftesbury Avenue (Salieri {USA}). She delivered a colt by Anamoe this spring, and visited Stay Inside again in November.
Emirates Park blueblood heats up at Randwick
The well-related Marhoona (Snitzel) scorched the turf in her second trial at Randwick on Tuesday morning. Already a trial winner from earlier in the month, the Michael Freedman-trained filly put 1.69l on runner-up Military Legend (Russian Revolution) this time out.
Bred and retained by Emirates Park, Marhoona is out of unraced Encosta De Lago mare Salma, who has already been a prolific producer as the dam of Listed Greyville Gatecrasher Stakes winner Trojan Harbour (Harbour Watch {Ire}), Listed Nudgee Stakes winner Salateen (I Am Invincible), and G2 Stan Fox Stakes-winning entire Hilal, who began his stud career at Grangewilliam Stud last year. Second dam Salameh (Secret Savings {USA}) is a stakeswinning half-sister to Al Maher and is a granddaughter of the great blue hen Dancing Show (USA) (Nijinky {Can}). Salma has missed the last two seasons, and was served by Capitalist in November.
Lucky Lass jumpstarts career on the Gold Coast
Lucky Lass (Lucky Vega {Ire}) skipped away in her debut trial at the Gold Coast on Tuesday for Tony Gollan. The 2-year-old filly out of Listed Washington Oaks placegetter Daddysalwayssays (USA) (Sky Mesa {USA}) beat fellow debutante Sussusudio (Zousain) by 3.3l.
Bred by Yulong Investments and Fly Horse Group, Lucky Lass is the the second living foal for her imported dam, who is a half-sister to G3 Bessarabian Stakes winner Magic Broomstick (More Than Ready {USA}), dam of Listed Queenston Stakes winner Tio Magico (USA) (Uncle Mo {USA}). She was a $70,000 purchase for Gollan Racing and John Foote Bloodstock (FBAA) at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. The late Daddyalwayssays has a yearling filly by Tagaloa to follow, who was sold in an Inglis Digital auction as a weanling in July for $700 to Kayo Farm.

On the other side of the country at Pinjarra, Storm Away (Lucky Vega {Ire}) delivered a trial double for his Yulong Stud-based sire. The gelding is trained by Mitchell Pateman and was a $65,000 purchase for his trainer at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, where he was presented by Kingsgrove Stud on behalf of breeders Miss S Beresi, Mr D Bates, and Ms S Benthien. He is the fifth living foal from winning Street Cry (Ire) mare Nightingales, who is closely related to G1 Robert Sangster Stakes winner Instant Celebrity (Not A Single Doubt). She has a yearling by Playing God and was served by Lightsaber this spring.

King’s Legacy train keeps rolling with Strathalbyn winner
Steel Trap (King’s Legacy) emerged as another promising first crop runner for King’s Legacy with her trial at Strathalbyn on Tuesday. The filly had debuted for a fourth place finish in October at Murray Bridge, and returned to the trials to beat Harmonic Dancer (Pariah) by 0.38l.

Bred by Phoenix Broodmare Farm, Steel Trap is trained by Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray for Angas River Contractors, who paid $30,000 for her at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale. She is the first foal from three-time winner Lochita (Lonhro), who descends from G1 VRC Oaks victress Arborea (Imperial Prince {Ire}) and is closely related to G2 Shannon Stakes winner Drumbeats and Listed Morphettville Guineas winner Tai Tai Tess (Magic Albert). Lochita has a yearling colt by Tiger Of Malay, who sold at the Gold Coast to Sunset Reef Pty Ltd for $20,000, and delivered a full brother to Steel Trap in the spring.
King’s Legacy has been on a roll with his first crop lately, siring two winners this month with his daughters Kujenga and Open Secret.
