Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two exciting 3-year-old runners that are both trained by Ben, Will and JD Hayes are set to hit the track at Kilmore on Tuesday. A Zousain gelding that has looked handy at the jump-outs makes his debut and a well-bred Fastnet Rock filly chases deserved maiden success.

Zouman Along, 3-year-old gelding (Zousain x Mandalong One Up {Tapit {USA}})
The Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained Zouman Along will travel to Kilmore on Tuesday to make his debut over 1200 metres. He looks like he has his fair share of ability as he has shown plenty in his jump-out form in the lead up to his maiden raceday assignment.
The promising gelding is by Widden Stud’s Zousain and is the first foal from the Tapit (USA) mare Mandalong One Up, who was a winner at Canberra over 1300 metres.
Zouman Along’s grandam Leinan (USA) (Ready’s Image {USA}) was a talented mare on the track in America, she was a three-time winner including two as a juvenile, including in two Listed events. The family page has some lovely colonial and international pedigree influences including Zoustar, Elnadim (USA), Redoute’s Choice, Tapit (USA), Green Desert (USA), Thatching (Ire), Fappiano (USA) and Nijinsky II (Can).
Mandalong One Up, since producing Zouman Along has left a 2-year-old filly by The Autumn Sun, a yearling colt by Farnan and was most recently served by Zousain again last spring.
Zouman Along was originally a $20,000 purchase by Syndicate 3 from the draft of Widden Stud from the 2022 Inglis June (Late) Digital Sale. He was then a successful pinhook when selling from the Widden Stud draft for $85,000 to Flying Start Syndications/Pinhook Bloodstock (FBAA) from the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Rose Diamond, 3-year-old filly (Fastnet Rock x Love Charm {GB} {Singspiel {Ire}})
Kilmore’s Tuesday meeting will be the venue for the Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained, well-bred filly, Rose Diamond to have her fourth start. On debut she ran a sound third behind Sounds Fun (Grunt {NZ}) where she made ground well in the straight, she then failed at Caulfield before running another nice race at Cranbourne on December 20 for second behind Party Whip (Americain {USA}) over the mile distance.
Rose Diamond is by the outstanding Fastnet Rock and is out of the Singspiel (Ire) mare Love Charm (GB), she has a strong international pedigree with her page full of influential stallions including Danehill (USA), Royal Academy (USA), Sadler’s Wells (USA), Caerleon (USA), Halo (USA) and Sir Tristram (Ire).
