Lot 830: Zousain x Rapid Romance (Fastnet Rock), filly - $130,000
Buyer: Star Thoroughbreds/Randwick Bloodstock Agency (FBAA)
Vendor: Widden Stud
A couple hours into the fourth day of selling at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Star Thoroughbreds in conjunction with Randwick Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) secured Lot 830 for $130,000, in what appears to be a good piece of buying when you see the pedigree she has, and the way she is bred.
Speaking to The Thoroughbred Report following his joint-purchase on Friday, Brett Howard of Randwick Bloodstock Agency spoke of the opportunity to gain “A lovely filly that is from one of the best female lines in the world, by a stallion that is doing an outstanding job.
“Zousain’s fillies are really stepping up, he has had two Group winners and one of them is Amelita who Chris Waller trains. Star Thoroughbreds have purchased this filly, Chris Waller will be training, and he knows the breed inside out. He trained Zoustar, trained Zousain and has had outstanding success with both of those stallions' progeny.”

Lot 830 is by Widden Stud’s Zousain and is the second foal of Rapid Romance (Fastnet Rock) who was a winner over 1600 metres on the track and also a half-sister to the Group 2-winning Not A Single Doubt mare Summer Sham. This stylish Zousain filly is closely related and is bred on the same lines as the John O'Shea-trained dual Group-winning colt Schwarz (Zoustar) and also descends from the blue hen mare Shantha’s Choice (Canny Lad) who is most famously the dam of Redoute’s Choice.
“The damline of this filly is arguably the best in the world alongside Natalma, her seventh dam is Best In Show and she is one of the most influential broodmares in the world in the last 50 or 60 years.

“She was a lovely type, had good swagger like her close relation Schwarz, and she stretched out well. If she was to win black type, she would be a very valuable broodmare prospect. She was a perfect combination of her Zoustar sireline with the strength of her broodmare sire Fastnet Rock added in. A lovely representation of both sides of her pedigree.”
He confirmed that there were shares available and that people should get in contact with Denise Martin of Star Thoroughbreds, he did emphasise that she was “The value buy of the sale and she won't last long at that sort of money, so get in quick.”
Lot 830 was a ‘Perfect Match’ under Stallion Match’s analysis. This means the mating has two or more graded stakes winners, with shared ancestors in every corner of the pedigree. The Perfect Match alignment is achieved by only three per cent of Stallion Match searches and contribute to an impressive 24 per cent of all stakes winners.
