Lot 610 - Super Seth x Loveable (NZ) (Savabeel), filly - $110,000
Buyer: David Ellis (BAFNZ)/Te Akau Racing
Vendor: Waikato Stud
David Ellis of Te Akau Racing was happy to make an astute purchase on Day 3 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, acquiring a very well-related Super Seth filly from the Waikato Stud draft.
This filly is out of Loveable (NZ) (Savabeel), who was unplaced on the track but holds a very strong pedigree page. She is a three-quarter sister to the dual Group-winning sprinter Splurge (NZ) (Savabeel) and the talented stayer Milford (NZ) (Savabeel) who was also a dual Group winner over staying trips. She is also a half-sister to Sacred Falls (NZ) who was a four-time winner at the elite level including famously winning the G1 Doncaster H., in back-to-back years.
Speaking to The Thoroughbred Report, David Ellis spoke of how his team thought they snared a bargain and how her page straight away was an obvious target for him.
“We really like Super Seth, we currently train La Dorada who is a very good filly and she is one of the favourites for the Karaka Million, she is bred on the exact same cross as this filly.”

Ellis was impressed with her overall profile, saying, “I really loved her as a type, she had real good balance, good strength and she really looked a racehorse to our eye. The damline of Savabeel and Redoute’s Choice is as good as you get.”
“She is very much a value buy, she has pedigree, we have successfully trained members of the family, we know they can gallop, and she provides an ideal opportunity for someone to buy into a lovely filly that will hold substantial residual value also.”
Straight after purchasing this filly, Ellis received a lovely surprise which he was very pleased about.
“Harry Chittick, Mark’s son, came up to me and said that she was his favourite horse in the draft, and asked politely if he could take a share, of course I said yes, it will be great to have him as an owner!”

He confirmed that as the 'Te Akau way' she had been purchased on spec and was keen (understandably) to mention that shares were available.
Lot 610 was a ‘20/20 Match’ under Stallion Match’s analysis. This means that this mating has two or more successful graded stakes winners with over 20 shared ancestors within five generations. While only 45 per cent of matings are a 20/20 Match, 70 per cent of stakes-winning horses are bred on it, increasing your chances significantly.
