There is no doubt that Capitalist is bringing financial rewards for Newgate Farm at the moment.
The latest of his 315 winners from 497 runners was Quietly Arrogant, the 2-year-old colt saluting in classy fashion by 1.19l in the Gold Nugget 2YO Colts and Geldings sprint over 1100 metres at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
That performance meant Quietly Arrogant showed he was ready to line up in this Saturday’s R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
In his second start, the 2-year-old colt took the lead at the 200-metre mark and wasn’t headed from there, under the urgings of Blake Shinn. The colt’s debut start saw him finish fourth at Randwick on December 21.
“He’s still learning, but this was a big step forward,” trainer Peter Snowden said post-race. “He’s got talent, and this sets him up nicely for the Magic Millions. He’s an honest horse. In top company he might be midfield, but why not have a crack?”
Beirs believes Quietly Arrogant would not look out of place in the $3 million race for 2-year-olds this Saturday, with a question mark hovering over the venue given the current state of the surface at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
“I think he’ll give it a good shake. It seems to be an open race this year, and I think he’s in with a good shot,” Beirs told The Thoroughbred Report.
“He’s trained by Peter, who is and always will be one of the great 2-year-old trainers in this country.
“Great win (at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday). Full of determination and a beautiful ride by Blake Shinn. Peter had the horse spot-on to win well.”

Beirs was instantly impressed with what he saw from Quietly Arrogant after breeder Belinda Bateman sent him to Newgate Farm.
“He was a very typical Capitalist (when under the care of Newgate Farm). Precocious, medium-sized colt,” he said. “Always looked like a precocious colt with plenty of quality.
“He was a lovely colt bred by Belinda Bateman, and that was why Henry (Field) purchased him for our colt group.”
Beirs said Newgate Farm was delighted when they sold Quietly Arrogant for $400,000 to China Horse Club, Newgate, Go Bloodstock and Trilogy at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
“Belinda is a shareholder in Capitalist, and raced Capitalist as well,” he said.
“Belinda’s a client of James Harron, and she’s been a big supporter of Capitalist his whole career.
“He was well-priced, and we were all delighted with that result.”
Not A Single Doubt about Single Sapphire’s breeding brilliance
Quietly Arrogant was the third winner from three to race from Single Sapphire, a winning Not A Single Doubt mare from the family of Group winners Twilight Royale (Testa Rossa), Serasana (Snitzel) and current stakes winner Danny’s St Darci (All Too Hard).
The fourth foal of Single Sapphire is a yearling colt by Home Affairs that will be offered by Newgate as Lot 944 at Magic Millions.
“She’s a lovely Not A Single Doubt mare who Belinda Bateman raised. She’s a beautiful mare with lots of quality, and has a lovely foal every year,” Beirs said.
“She’s got a great Home Affairs colt in the sales, and she’s just a typical Not A Single Doubt mare – great mover, tons of quality, great mother and always has good foals.
“She’s a very reliable source year-in, year-out.”

Capitalist a real money-spinning sire for Newgate Farm
Saturday’s impressive victory from Quietly Arrogant means Capitalist now boats an excellent record of 315 winners from 497 runners. At the same stage of their careers, Capitalist leads Champion Sire Snitzel in stakes winners and 2-year-old stakes winners.
Beirs worked with Capitalist during his on-track career and now as a star sire, and says it is something he is grateful for.
“It was pretty fortunate that I worked with Peter Snowden when Capitalist was in his stable, and he was far-and-away a precocious horse,” he said.
“Very forward, and he reliably produces gun 2-year-olds every year.
“He’s a great horse to send young mares to because you always get a good type. He’s a very fertile horse. He’s a good, reliable source of precocious speed.”

Newgate Farm will have six Capitalists for sale at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from January 7-13.
“He’s got the horse who won (on Saturday), and he’s got the other filly of Snowden’s, Memo,” Beirs said. “She’ll run in the (R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic) race as well. She was another filly who we sold last year.
“She was a little bit unlucky last start, but thus far she looks like one of the better juveniles of the season.
“As always, the horse (Capitalist) is a reliable source for good 2-year-olds, and it’s no different this year.”
Newgate will have an impressive total of 57 colts and fillies available at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, and Beirs said his Capitalist colt at Lot 995 caught his eye, among a couple of others.
“We've got a big strapping Capitalist colt out of a mare called Still Reigning, who’s related to another Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign,” he said.
“We’ve got a lovely filly out of Harlem River, who is a sister to Nathan Doyle’s Group 1 filly Harlem Queen.
“There’s a lovely filly out of Fromparis Withlove, who has been pinhooked by a bunch of the team.”
