Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two promising 3-year-olds are set to hit the track at Sale on Sunday. A well-bred Written Tycoon gelding makes his debut and a Turn Me Loose (NZ) gelding chases deserved maiden success as he drops back in grade.

The Viking, 3-year-old gelding (Written Tycoon x Scandiva {Fastnet Rock})
The Viking, a son of Yulong’s outstanding stallion Written Tycoon, will be making his debut at Sale for Ben, Will and JD Hayes on Sunday. He has looked smart at trials, winning his last two at Seymour and Traralgon.
The well-bred gelding is the fifth live-foal from the Fastnet Rock mare Scandiva, who was talented on the track winning twice as a juvenile. Her best win was in the G2 Magic Night S., and she was classy enough to run second in the G1 Sires’ Produce S.
She has been very good in the shed also leaving three winners including the Group 3 winner Maximillius (Written Tycoon), Oslo (Pierro) and Stenmark (Medaglia D’Oro {USA}).
Scandiva is very well-related being a half-sister to the Group 1 winner and consistent stallion in Magnus, the Group 2-winning stallion of one crop in Wilander and the Listed winner Arctic Flight (Flying Spur).
In addition to this she is a half-sister to Helsinge (Desert Sun {GB}), she is famously the dam of All Too Hard who was the Champion 3YO Colt in Australia, he won seven times including the G1 All Aged S., G1 Caulfield Guineas, G1 CF Orr S. and the G1 Futurity S. The Champion Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) is also one of her progeny and she was the unbeaten winner of 25 races including an unbelievable 15 Group 1 races.
Other successful stakes winners within this pedigree are Semillion (Shalaa {Ire}), Scandinavia (Fastnet Rock), Ole Kirk, Gimmie Par (Not A Single Doubt), Krakarib (Ribchester {Ire}), Austmarr (Exosphere) and Hanseatic.
Scandiva since producing The Viking has left a 2-year-old filly by Written Tycoon named Jessica Rabbit and a yearling filly by Toronado (Ire).
The Viking was withdrawn from both the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Bring Forth (NZ), 3-year-old gelding (Turn Me Loose {NZ} x Deedee Panache {NZ} {Darci Brahma {NZ}})
Cranbourne trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr will prepare the 3-year-old gelding Bring Forth (NZ) looking for deserved maiden success at Sale’s Sunday meeting
Bring Forth has been very consistent in his career so far managing three placings, in addition to that he ran a slashing fourth in the G2 Sandown Guineas behind the very talented Snitzanova (Snitzel). The drop back from this grade to maiden company should see him saluting the judge.
Bring Forth is by Windsor Park Stud’s stallion Turn Me Loose (NZ) out of the Darci Brahma (NZ) mare Deedee Panache (NZ), she was a useful filly winning twice, placing in the Listed Inglewood S. and running fourth in the G2 Wellington Guineas.
Deedee Panache is a half-sister to the talented stayer Sully (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}), he only managed two wins but was a top-level performer managing placings in the G1 Victoria Derby, G3 Queen Elizabeth S., G3 JRA Cup, Listed Cranbourne Cup, G1 Spring Champion S. and the G2 Herbert Power S.
As well as leaving Sully and Deedee Panache, Lady Winifred (NZ) (Casual Lies {USA}) has been a good producer leaving another the seven-time winner Wills Road (NZ) (Elusive City {Fr}), and the four-time Hong Kong winner Fireball (NZ) (Burgundy {NZ}).
Bring Forth was a NZ$150,000 purchase by Mick Price Racing and Breeding from the draft of Windsor Park Stud at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.
Since producing Bring Forth, Deedee Panache has produced a 2-year-old filly by Circus Maximus (Ire) named Millie Grams (NZ) and was due to foal to Windsor Park Stud’s exciting sire Profondo earlier this spring.
Looking Back
Pallaton (Wootton Bassett {GB}) was very impressive winning on debut, he got himself into a great spot and sprinted strongly in the straight. He is a very promising colt.
The Eyes Have It (Brutal {NZ}) ran a solid third at Wyong, another honest effort from her.
Devil Night (Extreme Choice) was unfortunately scratched, he will keep for another day.
