All eyes were on the latest offspring - and first colt - from blue hen Miss Debutante (Fastnet Rock) who had his first official trial at Randwick-Kensington on Monday morning, and showed promise that he could follow in his sisters' footsteps. A pair of Exceed And Excel 2-year-olds also made impressions with trial wins, Levendi scored his first trial winner, and a Bivouac filly delivered an explosive finish at Belmont.

Another star in the making for Miss Debutante

Emerging blue hen Miss Debutante’s (Fastnet Rock) first colt Lancelot Du Lac (Flying Artie) stepped out for the second time onto the Randwick-Kensington track on Monday morning and fended off the late charge of Guardsman (Extreme Choice) to win the heat by 0.37l. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained 2-year-old colt finished third on debut last month behind the fast-finishing Albany Road (Exceed And Excel).

Bred and retained by Go Bloodstock, Lancelot Du Lac boasts an impressive pedigree, with three half-sisters already achieving stakes success. These include Lady Of Camelot (Written Tycoon), this year’s G1 Golden Slipper S. winner, and Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible), a four-time Group 3 winner. Another half-sister, Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar), winner of the G3 Gimcrack S., was sold to Coolmore Stud for $3.5 million at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale.

Herself the winner of the Listed Denise’s Joy S., Miss Debutante produced a full sister to Queen Of The Ball last spring, before missing to Zoustar.

Smart Pallaton powers home

The fastest 850-metre trial of Monday morning at Randwick-Kensington came from Michael Freedman’s Pallaton (Wootton Bassett {GB}), who only needed a little urging from Tommy Berry to extend in the last furlong of the home straight, crossing the line 0.29l ahead of Quietly Arrogant (Capitalist). A further 1.92l stretched back from second place to third-place finisher Graphic Sight (Lucky Vega {Ire}).

Bred and retained by Mr A Gow-Gates, Pallaton is the seventh named foal from Listed Talindert S. winner Anevay (Exceed And Excel), a half-sister to G2 Todman S.-winning sire Krupt. She is a close relation to three-time Group 2 winner Fit To Lead (USA) (Fit To Fight {USA}). Anevay produced a colt last year by Smart Missile, making him a full brother to her five-time metro winner Yiska, and was served this spring by Home Affairs.

Improving Ferradura gets edge on stablemate

A late burst of speed from Ferradura (Exceed And Excel) landed the filly 0.05l ahead of stablemate Saytara (Written Tycoon) in her juvenile trial at Randwick-Kensington on Monday morning. The Tulloch Lodge-trained 2-year-olds improved down the home straight to put a further 2.53l between them and third place in their heat. On her trial debut last month, Ferradura finished a game third by 0.57l to Charka (Exceed And Excel), who finished third at Ballarat on the weekend.

Bred and retained by Glentree Pastoral, Ferradurra is the fourth foal from Cheering {USA) (War Front {USA}), a daughter of Listed Salsabil S. winner Kissed (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who is a full sister to G3 Loughbrown S.-winning Dawn Patrol and a half-sister to G1 The Derby winner Pour Moi (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}). Last spring, Cheering delivered a colt by St Mark’s Basilica (Fr), and she was exported to New Zealand in July.

Street Boss filly toughs it out

Deep Affection (Street Boss {USA}) held on to her lead over fast finishing Miss Freelove (Tassort) in her Randwick-Kensington trial on Monday to win by 0.61l. The John Thompson-trained 2-year-old filly was fourth at her trial debut last month behind Charka, finishing on the tail of trial winner Ferradurra.

Bred by Grant Bloodstock and Carpe Diem Asset Management, Deep Affection was purchased for $20,000 by her trainer out of Silverdale Farm’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale draft. She is the first named foal from dual winner Smitten (Lonhro), a half-sister to G3 Spring S. winner Astoria (Medaglia D'Oro) whose dam Segue (Ad Valorem) is a half-sister to Champion 2YO and 3YO Colt Viscount. Smitten has a yearling colt by Astern and a foal at foot by In The Congo, and visited Ozzmosis this spring.

Bivouac filly bolts in at Belmont

Luana Miss (Bivouac) proved too difficult to catch for her rivals at the Belmont trials on Monday morning. Trained by Trevor Andrews, the 2-year-old filly relished the step up to 850 metres and flew home to finish 3.7l over Tora Bora (Shamus Award). She previously had two runs at 400 metres, most recently fourth to subsequent debut winner Castle Road (Safeguard).

A $110,000 purchase for her trainer from the Western Breeders Alliance - consisting of Darling View Stud, Einoncliff Park, and Westbury Park - at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, Luana Miss is the fourth named foal for metro-winning Little Bit Ditsy (Bel Esprit), a half-sister to Listed Adelaide Guineas winner Vienna Miss (Snitzel), from the family of dual Group 1 winner Hollow Bullet (Tayasu Tsuyoshi {Jpn}). Little Bit Ditsy has a yearling filly by Farnan, and was served this spring by Playing God after missing to Splintex.

Parnham debuts latest descendant from line of trainees

Neville Parnham unleashed the first foal of his five-time winning mare City Circle (City Place {USA}) at the Belmont trials on Monday morning, and Country God (Playing God) was a strong winner by 1.2l of his 400-metre heat, with Parnham’s son Chris Parnham in the saddle. Neville Parnham trained the colt’s dam to five wins and fifteen placings, accumulating $204,465 before her retirement in 2021.

Country God was purchased by his trainer from breeders Yarradale Stud for $80,000 at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale. City Circle is out of Flying Angel (Flying Spur), half-sister to Listed Hilton Hotels S. winner Bigelow (Al Maher), who also ran third in the G2 Sandown Guineas behind Pressday, who passed away after just one season at stud.

Flying Angel was also purchased as a yearling by Parnham, with injury shortening what appeared to be a promising career. City Circle has a yearling full brother to Country God and foaled a colt this season by Maschino.

Sharp bluebloods debut for Godolphin

James Cumming debuted two well-bred colts at Ballarat on Monday morning for two wins in the juvenile heats. Craig Williams steered Chergui (Frosted {USA}) to a 0.4l victory over Ardesha (Brazen Beau) in the first 2-year-old trial, then hopped on Tsavo (Microphone) 15 minutes later for a 3l win over Bad Blood (Dirty Work).

Chergui is the latest runner from blue hen Essaouira (Exceed And Excel), juvenile-winning daughter of G2 Magic Night S. victress Alizes (Rory’s Jester) and dam of the successful sires Tassort and Astern, as well as Champion 3YO Filly Alizee (Sepoy). Her daughter Leopard (Animal Kingdom {USA}) is the dam of G3 Baillieu H. winner Amur (Snitzel) and another daughter produced Listed Galilee Series Final H.-winning Mamounia (Medaglia D'Oro {USA}).

Among Essaouira’s half-sisters are the dams of dual juvenile stakes winner Zulfiqar (Exceed And Excel) and Listed Hinkler H. winner Willinga Beast (Snitzel). Essaouira foaled a filly by Pinatubo (Ire) last season, and a colt by Too Darn Hot (GB) this spring.

Tsavo is the fourth named foal from Mondial (Ire) (Sharmardal {Ire}), a half-sister to G1 Victoria Derby-winning sire Benicio, G2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic victress Romneya (Red Ransom), and eight-time winner Roheryn (Lonhro), who won the Listed Falvelon H. twice. Another half-sister, Rose Trail (USA) (Kingmambo {USA}) is the dam of three stakes winners worldwide, including Off Trail (GB) (Farhh {GB}) who won the G3 Fukushima Radio Nikkei Sho for Godolphin in June.

Mondial missed last season, and was served this spring by Rosemont Stud’s Anders, who chalked up his first winner at the weekend

First trial winner for Levendi

G1 Australian Derby winner Levendi received his first trial winner from only his second runner on Monday morning on the Ballarat track. Sent out by Patrick Kearney, Tempt The Gods (Levendi) dashed home 0.75l in front of runner-up Yolo (I Am Invincible), posting the fastest time of the 2-year-olds over the 900 metres that morning by 0.61s.

Levendi | Standing at Broadsmarsh Stud

Offered by Broadmarsh Stud on behalf of breeder Miss A Beadman at the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, Tempt The Gods was purchased for $5000 by CJG Racing and Patrick Kearney Racing. His dam Hidden Charm (Reset) is out of a half-sister to Listed Herald Sun Superracing S.-placed Lil Red Corvette (Henny Hughes {USA}).

A son of Pierro who also won the G2 Tulloch S. and G3 Carbine Club S. as a 3-year-old, Levendi stands at Broadmarsh Stud for $7700 (inc GST) and his first crop of 27 foals hit the track this spring. Hidden Charm awaits another foal by Levendi this spring.
