Tempestuous storms home in Randwick return

G3 Breeders’ Plate runner-up Tempestuous (Extreme Choice) led home a Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott quinella in the first juvenile trial at Randwick on Tuesday morning, with only stable mate Cobra Club (Cool Aza Beel {NZ}) being able to diminish his impressive lead down to 1.75l in the home straight. The colt ran the fastest last 600 metres of all four 2-year-old heats - and it certainly looked like there was more in the tank.

The son of Newgate Farm’s super sire Extreme Choice is the third foal from Windrayne (GB) (Sepoy), a half-sister to Champion Older Sprinter in Europe Sole Power (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) and Listed-placed Sotka (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}), dam of the Group 3 winners Fas (Ire) (Fastnet Rock) and Silva (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}). Windrayne’s foal last season is deceased, and she was covered this spring by a new edition to Newgate’s ranks, King’s Gambit. When offered by Newgate Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Tempestuous cost $375,000 for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and longtime collaborator Kestrel Thoroughbreds.

Albany Road bobs and weaves to trial victory

Another stable mate of Tempestuous, Albany Road (Exceed And Excel) peeled out from the back of the pack in his Randwick trial and showed a superb burst of speed to finish 0.54l in front of Pallaton (Wootton Bassett {GB}) on Tuesday. The 2-year-old colt has come on in leaps and bounds from his fourth-placed finish behind Ethaara (Capitalist) at his debut trial earlier in the month.

Bred by Rosemont Stud, Albany Road was a $650,000 purchase for Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA), Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, and Kestrel Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January. He is a half-brother to G3 David Coles AM S. winner Flyer (Exceedance) and G3 Breeders' S. Treasurway (Starspangledbanner), and his grandam Rosemont Flyer (Bel Esprit) is a half-sister to 11-time winner Secret Flyer (Secret Savings {USA}), who also claimed two Listed contests. Dam Miss Toorak Flyer (Toorak Toff) has a yearling colt by Shamus Award and a foal at foot by Starspangledbanner, and was served by Dundeel (NZ) in September.

G3 Breeders' Plate victor King Kirk (Ole Kirk) finished fourth. The star colt, who was en route to the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January, died in a freak accident at the Randwick racecourse pool following his trial.

Blue blooded Legacy delivers Waterhouse and Bott trial treble

Bringing up a treble of juvenile trial wins for her trainers at Randwick, Satin’s Legacy (King’s Legacy) skipped away from her rivals for a 0.75l win in the first of two 2-year-old fillies’ trials on Tuesday morning. She delivers her Coolmore Stud-based sire a fourth trial winner from his first crop.

Bred and retained to race by Mrs Belinda Bateman, Satin’s Legacy is a daughter of Listed Gimcrack S. winner Satin Slipper (Pierro), herself a daughter of G2 Silver Slipper S. victress and triple Listed winner Satin Shoes (Flying Spur). Satin Slipper’s first two foals are Listed Redoute's Choice S. winner I Am Unstoppable (I Am Invincible), who was runner-up in the G1 Coolmore Stud S. to freshman sire Ozzmosis, and dual Listed-placed Satin Stiletto (Written Tycoon). A full brother to Satin’s Legacy was born last spring and will be Lot 885 in Newgate Farm's draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January, and Satin Slipper visited I Am Invincible again in September.

Smart trial winner for Hello Youmzain

Smart 2-year-old filly Remala (NZ) (Hello Youmzain {Fr}) was the fastest juvenile home at Taupo on Tuesday morning. Already a smart winner of her debut trial earlier this month, the Lance Noble trainee beat Quenza (NZ) (Almanzor {Fr}) by 0.75l.

Bred by T O Harrison, Remala was a $180,000 purchase for Cambridge Stud from Kilgravin Lodge’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale. She is the third foal from Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial S. victress Alamer (NZ) (Alamosa {NZ}), a daughter of G3 Curragh Matron S. Clerio (GB) (Soviet Star {USA}). Through Clerio’s dam, Remala is closely related to Champion Older Male Miler in Europe in 2019 Benbatl (GB), who shuttled to Woodside Park Stud this season for the first time.

Hello Youmzain (Fr) is enjoying a super start at stud with his juveniles, chalking up two Group 3 winners in the Northern Hemisphere and his first Southern Hemisphere winner in Hello Romeo (NZ), who scored on debut earlier this month.

Juvenile trial double for Walker and Bergerson

Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson sent out a pair of 2-year-old trial winners at Taupo on Tuesday morning, led by Titahi Bay (NZ) (Spirit Of Boom) putting 0.1l on She’s Got The Loot (NZ) (Turn Me Loose {NZ}). In the next trial, well bred War Of Silence (Snitzel) got his head in front of stable mate Dujardin (NZ) (Hello Youmzain {Fr}).

Sporting the Fortuna Racing colours, Titahi Bay was bred by Cambridge Stud and offered through their draft at the Gold Coast in January, where David Ellis CNZM (BANZ) and Fortuna Racing paid $100,000 to take the filly back home. She is the fourth foal from G3 Anniversary S.-placed Aotearower (NZ) (Shamardal {USA}), who is out of G2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic winner Katoon (NZ) (Kaapstad {NZ}). Aotearower has a yearling filly by Farnan, who will be Lot 448 in Cambridge Stud's draft at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale next year, and was served last spring by Sword Of State.

David Ellis went to $700,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for War Of Silence, the Arrowfield-bred son of talented G1 William Reid S. victress Silent Sedition (War Chant {USA}). Silent Sedition’s second dam was G1 Coolmore Classic winner Porto Roca (Barathea {Ire}), dam of UAE Champion Older Male Monterosso (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). Silent Sedition has both a yearling and a foal at foot by Arrowfield’s champion stallion, and was served by his young barn mate Admire Mars (Jpn) in September of this year.

Son of Written Tycoon sprouts wings at Taupo

Fat Cat (Written Tycoon) showed an impressive turn of foot down the Taupo home straight on Tuesday to beat out a pair of Te Akau Racing-owned fillies in the last juvenile trial of the morning. The Andrew Forsman-trained colt showed a superior stride length round the outside of the leaders, getting himself 0.1l in front at the line.

A $220,000 purchase for Forsman Racing and Andrew Williams Bloodstock (FBAA) from Carlaw Park at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, Fat Cat was bred by Sunlight Services. He is the first foal from three-time winner Diamonds Galore (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}), half-sister to G2 Rich Hill Mile winner Ruud Not Too (NZ) (Bernardini {USA}), dam of Listed Tattersall's Mile-winning Cottee (Merchant Navy). Diamonds Galore produced a filly by St Mark’s Basilica (Fr) last spring, before being covered by Toronado (Ire). The filly will be offered by Carlaw Park in Book 1 of the Karaka sale next year, as Lot 560.

Tassort filly’s pedigree shines in Wyong trial debut

A close relation to New Zealand-based stallion Santos, Wollzeile (Tassort) debuted with a win in her juvenile trial at Wyong on Tuesday morning. The Kris Lees-trained filly beat expensive Exceed And Excel colt Impact Zone to win by 0.17l, despite his late challenge in the straight.

Wollzeile is a daughter of Figlmuller (Snitzel), a half-sister to G2 Skyline S. winner Santos who now stands at Highview Stud for $8000 plus GST. Filgmuller is also a half-sister to G3 Yukan Fuji Sho Ocean S. winner Melagrana (Fastnet Rock), who has accrued 138,613,000¥ (AU$1,388,500) in prizemoney, and Profound Wisdom (Al Samer), dam of G3 Chairman's S. winner Sebonack (Capitalist), who is Lot 3 in the current Inglis Digital sale. Profound Wisdom's Stay Inside filly will be Lot 805 in Sledmere Stud's draft at the Gold Coast in January. This is also the family of 18-time winner Jivago (Snaadee {USA}).

Bahen Bloodstock and Kris Lees Racing paid $180,000 for the filly from the draft of breeders Emirates Park at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Figlmuller has a yearling colt by All Too Hard, and visited Hanseatic in October this spring.

Charka exceeds at Randwick

Charka (Exceed And Excel) was another well bred juvenile stepping out on Tuesday to win her trial at Randwick. The Blue Army’s 2-year-old filly dove to the front in the home straight, holding off Tomato Toastie (Too Darn Hot {GB}) and Ferradura (Exceed And Excel) for a 0.55l victory in the last juvenile heat of the morning.

Bred by Godolphin, Charka is the first foal out of five-time winner Handspun (Bernardini {USA}), granddaughter of In A Bound (Ashkalani {Ire}), the G2 Queen of the Turf S.-winning daughter of Horse of the Year Bounding Away (Biscay). She has a yearling full sister, and Handspun delivered a colt by Bivouac this spring.

Spirit Of Boom son impresses at Toowoomba

Spoilt Rotten (Spirit Of Boom) showed his rivals a clean pair of heels in his trial at Toowoomba on Tuesday morning. Trained by Michael Nolan, the 2-year-old colt darted away to a 6.8l win over Kvas (Russian Revolution), posting the quickest finish across the 650-metre heats.

Michael Nolan paid $110,000 for Spoilt Rotten at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Eureka Stud. He is out of juvenile winner Indulgent (Stravinsky {USA}), a daughter of G1 Blue Diamond S.-placed Danari (Danehill {USA}), who is a three-quarter-sister to G2 Sunline S. winner Spurn (Flying Spur). Last year, Indulgent foaled a full sister to Spoilt Rotten, before visiting Zousain late in the season.

Victory Vein granddaughter debuts at Deagon

A granddaughter of dual Group 1 winner Victory Vein (Mr Henrysee {USA}) debuted with a smart trial win at Deagon on Tuesday morning. Two-year-old filly Vein Girl (Blue Point {Ire}) contributed to a juvenile trial double for her trainers Chris and Corey Munce, putting 0.35l on stable mate Cool Archie (Cool Aza Beel {NZ}) in her heat.

Vein Girl was presented at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds in January, where Munce Racing and Arthur Hoyeau paid $60,000 for the daughter of Darley’s Blue Point (Ire). Her dam Last Vein (Unencumbered) is a daughter of Australian Champion 2YO Filly Victory Vein and a half-sister to the dam of Listed Glenlogan Park S. winner Sookie (Casino Prince), herself a dam of dual Group 1 winner Shadow Hero (Pierro). Last Vein delivered a colt by Palace Pier (GB) last year, before returning to Blue Point, whose 3-year-old son Kind Of Blu (GB) was victorious in this year’s edition of the G1 British Champions Sprint S..
