Black type pedigrees were to the fore in Tuesday's trials across Warwick Farm, Doomben, and Foxton, with relations to spring stakes winners Amelita (Zousain) and Bel Merci (Extreme Choice) among the top performers of the morning. Offspring from Group 1-winning Viddora (I Am Invincible) and multiple Listed winner Outback Barbie (Spirit Of Boom) were also among the winners.
Amelita's brother on the improve at Warwick Farm
Buckeye (Zousain), the 2-year-old full brother to talented G3 Red Roses winner Amelita stepped out on Tuesday morning at Warwick Farm and pounced on Offenbach (Snitzel) in the home straight to score by 0.47l. Trained by John O'Shea and Tom Charlton, he debuted earlier in the month with a second behind the speedy Hayek (Capitalist).
Bred by Mr R Pegum, Buckeye was offered by Cressfield at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January, where John O'Shea Racing and James Bester Bloodstock paid $200,000 for him. Dam Miss Amelia (More Than Ready {USA}) is a winning daughter of G2 Silver Slipper S. winner Amelia’s Dream (Redoute’s Choice) and half-sister to nine-time winner and Listed-placed Impasse (Sepoy). Miss Amelia has a yearling full sister to Amelita and Buckeye and was sent to New Zealand in August again in foal to their Widden Stud-based sire.
Daughter of SA talent is Warwick Farm's fastest
The 3-year-old daughter of G1 Winterbottom S. winner Viddora (I Am Invincible), O’Invincible (Snitzel) was a standout winner of her Warwick Farm trial on Tuesday morning. Trained by Bjorn Baker, the filly flew down the straight under Rachel King to score by 3.97l over Miss Backchat (I’m All The Talk), her 33.23s last 600 metres being the fastest of the morning. She has yet to hit the track on race day but has shown improvement through each of her four trials.
Yulong Investments bred and sold O’Invincible at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $500,000 to Bjorn Baker Racing, Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA), and Barry Lynch. The Victorian powerhouse had previously bought the dual Group 1-winning Viddora, trained by Lloyd Kennewell to stakes successes across four states, for $2,550,000 from the Newgate Consignment at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale. Viddora’s 2-year-old son Grand Prairie (Written Tycoon) passed in at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale this year and has been retained to race. She produced a filly by Diatonic (Jpn) this spring.
Blue Point filly fast on her feet
Debutant Sapphire Rose (Blue Point {Ire}) proved too hard to catch in her 2-year-old trial at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning. The Bjorn Baker-trained filly pulled out in front once entering the straight and was too quick for her rivals, maintaining a 1.75l lead to the line.
Bred by Mr RJ Crabtree, Sapphire Rose was presented at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Bhima Thoroughbreds, where she was purchased by Myracehorse Pty Ltd, Bjorn Baker Racing, Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA), and Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA) for $200,000. She is the fifth foal from G3 Wenona Girl H. winner Rocket Commander (Commands), granddaughter of Listed Oaks Trial S. winner and G1 Western Australian Oak runner-up Slightly Pink (Whiskey Road {USA}). Rocket Commander produced a full sister by Darley’s four-time Group 1 winner Blue Point (Ire) last spring.
Well bred Lockyer shows promise for Rosemont
The well related Lockyer (I Am Invincible), who ran second on debut at Eagle Farm earlier this month behind Strawberry Smash (Brave Smash {Jpn}), beat stable mate Midnight Spirit (Spirit Of Boom) by 0.15l on Tuesday morning at the Doomben trials. The Tony Gollan trainee appeared to have taken some improvement from his race day debut.
A $800,000 purchase for Rosemont Stud, Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA), and Gollan Racing at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of breeders Yarraman Park, Lockyer comes from good stock as the full brother to Rosemont Stud-based sire Strasbourg. His dam, G2 Queen of the South S.-placed Danish Spy (Dane Shadow), is out of Listed Crown Lager S. winner Super Snooper (Zeditave) and is a half-sister to Listed Barton S. winner Forest Spy (Shinko Forest {Ire}), winner of eight races. Danish Spy continued her long association with Yarraman Park’s champion stallion, foaling a filly by him last spring.
Farnan colt one to watch
Farnan colt Insta Worthy looked smart when winning a Doomben trial on Tuesday morning. The 2-year-old Matthew Dunn trainee went one better than in his debut trial earlier in the month, beating Artistic Endeavour (Better Than Ready) home by 0.1l.
Bred by Kia Ora Stud, Insta Worthy was originally offered at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale through the draft of Vinery Stud, where Redwall Bloodstock paid $175,000 for him. He returned to the Gold Coast in January for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where Matthew Dunn, Neil Jenkinson (FBAA), and Viva Racing paid $120,000 for the colt from the Widden Stud draft.
He is the third foal of G3 Ladies Turf S.-winning Insta Erma (USA) (Pioneerof the Nile {USA}), daughter of stakes-placed Enchanted Woods (USA) (Woodman {USA}). Insta Erma is a half-sister to Listed Millions Classic Preview S. winner Mordi’s Miracle (USA) (Lawyer Ron {USA}), as well as G3 Groupie Doll S.-placed Emmajestic (USA) (Zensational {USA}) and eight-time winner, dual Listed-placed Glenwood (USA) (Paynter {USA}). Insta Erma has a yearling filly by Captivant and delivered a colt by Anamoe this spring.
First foal of Outback Barbie impressive at Doomben
Hi Barbie (I Am Invincible) was a convincing trial winner of her juvenile heat at Doomben on Tuesday. Trained by Tony Gollan, the 2-year-old filly skipped away for a 7.25l win over her rivals, posting a 0.52s faster time over the 1000-metre contest than the other two juvenile heats over the same distance.
Presented by Yarraman Park at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on behalf of breeder Alan Acton, Hi Barbie was purchased by Gollan Racing and Acton’s widow Jennifer Acton for $1,200,000. She is the first foal out of Outback Barbie (Spirit Of Boom), who was a four-time Listed winner for the Actons and Group-placed on several occasions. Outback Barbie’s full sister Barbie’s Sister won the Listed Calaway Gal S. last season, and dam Pure Purrfection (General Nediym) won the Listed Bribie H.. Outback Barbie foaled a full brother to Hi Barbie last spring and sadly lost her Snitzel filly this year.
No surprise about Bel Merci's sister's ability
The 3-year-old full sister to G3 Gimcrack S. winner Bel Merci (Extreme Choice), Surprise Honey showed glimmers of her sister’s ability when winning her Doomben trial by 1.75l on Tuesday morning. Breaking her maiden earlier this month, the Tony Gollan-trained filly was twice placed as a 2-year-old, once behind subsequent stakes performer Matisse (Microphone).
Bred by Bell River Thoroughbreds, Bob Hogno, Joe Gilvarry, and Brookava TBs, Surprise Honey was a $800,000 purchase for Peachester Lodge from her breeder’s draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Aside from Bel Merci, she is also a half-sister to Listed Christmas S. winner All Too Royal (All Too Hard), out of G1 Robert Sangster S. victress Bel Mer (Bel Esprit). Half-sister Orabelle (Casino Prince) is dam to a pair of stakes performers, G3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic-placed Midnight in Tokyo (Kobayashi) and G3 Champion Fillies S. runner-up Generosity (Divine Prophet). Bel Mer produced a colt by Farnan last spring, before missing on return to Extreme Choice.
Another trial winner for Cool Aza Beel
First season sire Cool Aza Beel (NZ) produced another trial winner on Tuesday morning, when his 2-year-old daughter Don’t Tellyafather, trained by Matthew Dunn, won her 840-metre heat at Doomben by 0.1l over All Too Late (All Too Hard).
Topline Thoroughbreds, Neil Jenkinson (FBAA), and Matthew Dunn paid $45,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for the daughter of Newhaven Park resident Cool Aza Beel. She is the fifth foal from winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Sparkle, daughter of G1 Thousand Guineas winner Gallica (Redoute’s Choice) and half-sister to G2 Sandown Guineas-placed Valanetti (Sebring). Sparkle missed this year to Xtravagant (NZ) and was served in September by Newhaven Park’s newest acquisition, Mo’unga (NZ).
Three juvenile winners for Dunn with Torque To Be Sure
Matthew Dunn secured a third juvenile heat at Doomben on Tuesday morning, when Torque To Be Sure (Shamus Award) claimed the last 2-year-old run on the morning, beating out Madam Magpie (Better Than Ready) by 0.2l.
Bred by Mr RD Hannon, HG & MG Cope, Lees Racing, and E Spreling, Torque To Be Sure was offered at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Attunga Stud, where Matthew Dunn and Neil Jenkinson (FBAA) combined to pay $260,000 for the colt. He is out of G3 Kindergarten S.-placed Elimbari (Fastnet Rock), making him a half-brother to G2 Reisling S. runner-up Vincere Volare (I Am Invincible) and Listed Talindert S.-placed Conscious (So You Think {NZ}). Elimbari is a half-sister to G2 Silver Slipper S. winner Amelia’s Dream and expects a foal by Brave Smash (Jpn) this spring.
Too Sweet too quick at Foxton
Across the Tasman, Too Sweet (NZ) (Satono Aladdin {Jpn}) was too fast to catch at Foxton trials on Tuesday morning. The Roydon Bergerson-trained filly, who won a 2-year-old race earlier in the season, put 6l on her rivals in the only juvenile heat of the morning.
A NZ$50,000 purchase for Chris Rutten Bloodstock (BAFNZ) from Phoenix Park at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale this year, Too Sweet descends from Grand Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), dam of successful sire Darci Brahma (NZ) and G3 Breeders' S. winner Burgundy (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice). Her dam Sparkling Rose (Bernadini) foaled a full sister last year, and a colt by Circus Maximus (Ire) this spring.
