Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Three exciting runners are set to hit the track across Australia on Friday. An All Too Hard filly out of a dual Group 1 winner debuts at Canterbury, a promising Super Seth colt debuts at Moonee Valley and a Savabeel gelding that is bred to stay gets his first opportunity over ground at Seymour.

Regimental Colours, 3-year-old filly (All Too Hard x Regimental Gal {General Nediym})
The well-bred Regimental Colours (All Too Hard) is set to make her debut over 1100 metres for Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker at Canterbury on Friday. She has had plenty of education in preparation having trialled five times so far and winning three of them. She was very impressive winning the latest one at Warwick Farm on October 29 over 792 metres when defeating Flying By Fun (Spieth) by 4.33l.
Regimental Colours is a daughter of All Too Hard and is out of the classy sprinter Regimental Gal who was a 7-time winner including in the G1 Lightning S., G1 Australia S., G2 San Domenico S., G2 Silver Shadow S., and the R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic. She has had success at stud leaving seven winners with the best of them being Lilliburlero (Redoute’s Choice) who has been successful at Group 3-level in Sydney.

Fauci (NZ), 3-year-old colt (Super Seth x Tegwin (NZ) {O’Reilly {NZ}})
The well-related Fauci (NZ) (Super Seth) is set to make his debut over 1200 metres for Cranbourne trainer’s Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young at Moonee Valley on Friday. He has prepared for his debut with plenty of jump out experience and won quite nicely at Cranbourne over 1000 metres on October 21 defeating Bronte Beach (Justify {USA}). Bronte Beach then went on to win nicely on debut so that form looks solid.
Fauci is a son of Waikato Stud’s exciting Super Seth and is out of the O’Reilly (NZ) mare Tegwin (NZ) who was a winner over 1600 metres. She has already had success at stud leaving Fauci’s three-quarter brother Let’s Karaka Deel (NZ) (Dundeel {NZ}) who was a winner at a mile and managed placings in the G1 South Australian Derby, G3 Caulfield Classic, and the Listed Adelaide Guineas. Her only other runner to race has been Dulcet (NZ) (Eminent {Ire}) who has been a two-time winner.

Tegwin is also a half-sister to the Rip Van Winkle (Ire) gelding Winkler (NZ) who was a four-time winning stayer and was good enough to place in the Listed Grafton Cup. Tegwin’s dam is the classy Anne Carina (NZ) (Danske) who won six times including the Listed Eagle Farm S.
Tegwin since producing Fauci has left a 2-year-old filly by Super Seth named Shania (NZ), a yearling colt by Dundeel and was due to foal to Proisir earlier this spring.
Fauci sold for NZ$125,000 at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale with Busuttin Racing/Andrew Campbell Bloodstock (BAFNZ) being the successful purchaser from the draft of Wentwood Grange.
Bet365 Seymour, Race 1, 1.10pm AEDT, Bet365 Mdn Plate, $27,000, 2000m
Morthan Efficient (NZ), 3-year-old colt (Savabeel x Sunniva (NZ) {Pour Moi {Ire}})
Seymour’s Thursday meeting will serve as the venue for the fourth start for the Waikato Stud-bred Morthan Efficient (NZ) (Savabeel). In his first two starts at Bendigo he has held his ground well and has done his best work late, before showing good improvement when running second at Warrnambool on October 31 over 1700 metres behind the promising El James (NZ) (Wrote {Ire}).
Morthan Efficient is by the Champion New Zealand sire in Savabeel and he has a strong international pedigree with his page full of influential stallions including Zabeel (NZ), Montjeu (Ire), Defensive Play (USA), Darshaan (GB), Northern Dancer (Can) and Sadler’s Wells (USA).

His dam Sunniva (NZ) was unraced on the track but is very well-related. She is a three-quarter sister to the former Windsor Park Stallion and Group 2 winner Guillotine (NZ) and a half-sister the the G1 Melbourne Cup, G1 Turnbull S., and G1 VRC Derby victor in Efficient (NZ) (Zabeel).
Since producing Morthan Efficient, Sunniva has a 2-year-old colt by Savabeel and was due to foal to the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas winning son of Savabeel in Noverre (NZ) earlier this month.
Looking Back
Dunori (Dundeel {NZ}) ran a good third on debut, he only faded very late and it was a sound effort.
Dream All Day (NZ) (Savabeel) could not have been more impressive, she won in dominant fashion and should turn into a very good staying mare.
