There was a host of exciting juveniles trialling on Monday morning, first-season sire Hello Youmzain (Fr) had the lion's share of the action at Ruakaka, and an Emirates Park-bred filly showing she's stepped up since running into the Golden Gift winner last month.
Emirates Park filly hoping to frank form from North England trial
Ethaara (Capitalist) was an emphatic winner of the juvenile trial at Randwick on Monday morning for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. Fourth in her last trial behind subsequent winners North England (Farnan) and Within The Law (Lucky Vega {Ire}), the 2-year-old filly travelled comfortably on the outside of the pack before winding up at the top of the straight and pulling away from Bryant (Brutal {NZ}) to score by 2.23l. Her 32.89s for her last 600 metres was the second quickest of the morning’s 11 trials, six of which went the way of Tulloch Lodge horses, and was also 0.46s faster than North England's finish in last month's Hawkesbury trial.
Out of juvenile winner Final Agreement (Not A Single Doubt), Ethaara is a three-quarter sister to Enthaar (Written Tycoon), winner of the G3 Gimcrack S. and G3 Chairman's S. Her dam is a full sister to G1 Robert Sangster S. winner Secret Agenda and three-quarter-sister to G1 Vinery Stud S. runner-up Tutta La Vita (The Autumn Sun).
Ethaara was bred by Emirates Park and has been retained to race in the green and white colours of Hussain Lootah, son of His Excellency Nasser Lootah. Final Agreement and Enthaar foaled fillies by Zoustar and Tassort respectively last season, before both missed to Brave Smash (Jpn).
Juvenile trial quinella for Hello Youmzain
Daughter of Cambridge Stud’s Hello Youmzain (Fr), Remala (NZ) impressed at the Ruakaka trials on Monday morning, winning by 0.25l over stablemate Hello Hayley (NZ) (Hello Youmzain {Fr}) with a gap of 3l back to the rest of the field. Prepared by Karaka-based Lance Noble, the 2-year-old fillies shared the lead from the jump, pulling away from the park together in the home straight with Remala just getting the edge on her paternal sister.
Offered by Kilgravin Lodge on behalf of T O Harrison at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, Remala was purchased for NZ$180,000 by Cambridge Stud, who also bred and retained Hello Hayley.
Remala is the third named foal from Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial S. winner Alamer (NZ) (Alamosa {NZ}), herself a daughter of G3 Curragh Matron S. victress Clerio (GB) (Soviet Star {USA}). Her unraced half-sister Clerihew (GB) (Lomitas {GB}) is the dam of G1 Toorak H. winner He’s Our Rokkii (NZ) (Roc De Cambes {NZ}).
Alamer missed to Hello Youmzain last season and was covered again by him last spring. The G1 Diamond Jubilee S. winner has had three runners from his debut New Zealand crop for two placegetters to date.
Impressive debuts for Velvet Blue and Hey Dana
Hello Youmzain and Lance Noble almost had a second juvenile trial winner of the morning at Ruakaka, but his daughter Hey Dana (NZ) was pipped at the post by Bruce Wallace and Grant Cooksley’s Velvet Blue (Cosmic Force) who matched her stride for stride when she broke from the pack and downed her by 0.1l. The gap back to the rest of the field was an impressive 8l. Both were having their debut official trials round the Ruakaka track.
Bred by Gina Rinkin, Velvet Blue was sold to Top Pick Bloodstock for $15,000 at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale last year and was offered this year by Ralph Thoroughbreds at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, where he was bought by Wallace Thoroughbreds for NZ$80,000.
He is out of Call Me Cute (Astronomer Royal {USA}), an unraced half-sister to Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic winner Born To Rock (Fastnet Rock) and Listed SAJC Lightning S. victress Prettyhappyaboutit (Magnus), dam of Listed Kensington S. placegetter Yulong Command (Written Tycoon). Call Me Cute produced a full brother by Newgate Farm’s G2 Roman Consul S. winner last spring and is due to foal to barnmate Tiger Of Malay this month.
Speedy Yes Queen hard to catch at Belmont
Cape Falls Thoroughbreds will no doubt be pleased with the 5.91l trial win of Yes Queen (Yes Yes Yes) on Belmont’s track on Monday morning, running home almost a second faster than the other juvenile trial taking place over 400 metres. In her debut trial last month, the Dion Luciani-trained filly put 2.03l on Talkanco (I’m All The Talk), subsequently a convincing and professional winner of the $80,000 Magic Millions Plate at the weekend.
Retained to race by her breeders, Yes Queen is out of six-time winner Timely Queen (Danetime {Ire}), who was second in the Listed Gimcrack S. at Ascot. She is the best performed offspring of seven-time winner Brilliant Queen (Serheed {USA}). Timely Queen was served by Too Darn Hot (GB) after Yes Queen’s birth and has yet to have her mare return submitted. Yes Yes Yes has produced five stakes performers from his first crop, now 3-year-olds, led by G1 Spring Champion S.-placed Firm Agreement.
