Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Two exciting debutants are set to hit the track across Australia on Sunday. These include a promising Proisir filly at Mornington and a well-bred Deep Field filly at Muswellbrook.
Mornington, Race 1, 1pm AEDT, Evergreen Turf Plate, $37,500, 1000m
Talktomebaby (NZ), 3-year-old filly (Proisir x Tellmeaboutit {NZ} {Tavistock {NZ}})
The well-bred Proisir filly Talktomebaby (NZ) is set to have make her debut over 1000 metres at Mornington for trainer Ciaron Maher on Sunday. In preparation for this race, she looked smart winning a jump-out at Cranbourne on October 14 over 800 metres when defeating Queen Katrina (Written Tycoon).
Talktomebaby is the third foal out of the unraced Tavistock (NZ) mare Tellmeaboutit (NZ). She has already left a stakes-performer at stud with My Lips Are Sealed (NZ) (Ace High) so far in her career winning three times and managing a placing in the G3 Eulogy S.
The second dam of Talktomebaby is the classy Khozaam (USA) mare What Can I Say (NZ) she was an eight-time winner and won the G2 Warwick S., G3 Mapperley Stud S., Listed Foxbridge Plate, Listed Sapphire S. and the Listed Rotorua S. As a producer she left an outstanding 11 winners including the End Sweep (USA) mare Only Words, she was very talented on the track winning the G2 Surround S., G2 Phar Lap S., G2 Sir Byrne Hart S. and the G3 South Pacific Classic. She also placed in the G1 All Aged S. and the G1 TJ Smith S.
Other Group winners within this pedigree are Chat (Deep Field), Holy Snow (Fastnet Rock), Darci Be Good (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}), Babylon Berlin (All Too Hard), Gibraltar Campion (Rock Of Gibraltar {Ire}) and Flame Of Sydney (Encosta De Lago).
Since leaving Talktomebaby, Tellmeabout it has left a 2-year-old colt by Ocean Park (NZ) and was due to foal to Satono Aladdin (Jpn) this spring.
Talktomebaby was purchased for NZ$240,000 by Ciaron Maher Racing from the draft of Rich Hill Stud at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale
Muswellbrook, Race 6, 4.45pm AEDT, Bhima Thoroughbreds Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1280m
Ossianic, 3-year-old filly (Deep Field x Invincible Gem {I Am Invincible})
Muswellbrook’s Sunday meeting is the venue for the Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald-trained Ossianic. This well-bred filly has had two quiet trials at Rosehill and looks ready to run well on her debut over 1280 metres.
Ossianic is a daughter of the top-class and now pensioned sire in Deep Field and is out of the very talented mare in Invincible Gem (I Am Invincible) who was a six-time winner from 1100 metres to 1600 metres including in the G2 Emancipation S., G2 Missile S. and the G3 Spring S. She also managed placings in the G1 Randwick Guineas, G1 Canterbury S., G1 Randwick Guineas, G2 Villiers H., G2 Missile S., G3 Newmarket H., G2 Millie Fox S., G2 Tramway S. and the Listed Luskin Star S.
Invincible Gem since producing Ossianic has left a yearling colt by Prague and was due to foal to Snitzel last month.
Looking Back
Maddie's Comet (Cosmic Force) ran a good race for third, it was a nice solid debut
She Thinks Ahead (So You Think {NZ}) ran a solid race for fifth on debut, a good effort and she will improve off that.
Twin Island (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}) ran on well for fifth, she will be claiming a maiden event soon on the back of that over further. She is progressing nicely.
