Looking Ahead - September 22

5 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Three exciting runners are set to hit the track across Australia on Sunday including two Dundeel (NZ) 3-year-olds Kingofwallstreet and Politely Dun that battle it out in the Victoria Derby Preview and a Capitalist filly named Southern Money debuts at Bairnsdale. Interestingly Kingofwallstreet and Southern Money share the outstanding Dancing Show (USA) as their fourth dam.

Southern Money, 3-year-old filly (Capitalist x Jamil’s Girl {Pride Of Dubai)

The Pakenham-based trainer’s Ben, Will and JD Hayes saddle up Southern Money to make her debut over 1200 metres at Bairnsdale on Sunday.

This promising filly is the first and only foal from the Pride Of Dubai mare Jamil’s Girl, who was unraced on the track. Her dam Jamil (Danehill {USA}) was also unraced on the track but has had some solid success as a broodmare leaving four winners with the best of them being Ever The Same (Canny Lad) who was a three-time winner including in the Listed PJ Bell S., Her other winners include Twin Star Rocket (Bel Esprit), Luck And Fame (Royal Academy {USA}) and Think Aloud (Northern Meteor).

The family page is a little quiet up close in regards to stakes horses but there are plenty of stallions and top-class horses that feature within the page. Some of the stallions include Rubick, Manhattan Rain, Echoes Of Heaven, Niagara, Hurricane Sky, Umatilla (NZ), Hilal, Platinum Scissors and the legendary Redoute’s Choice.

Other Group winners that feature within the family are Monsoon Wedding (Danehill {USA}), Salameh (Secret Savings {USA}), Shoals (Fastnet Rock), Schwarz (Zoustar), Desert Lightning (NZ) (Pride Of Dubai), Gathering (Tale Of The Cat {USA}) and Rustic Steel (Deep Field).

Southern Money was purchased by Paul Willetts Bloodstock from the draft of KBL Thoroughbreds at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale, he went through the ring again as a yearling at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale but failed to meet his $80,000 reserve.

Flemington, Race 6, 4.25pm AEST, Penfolds Victoria Derby Preview, $75,000, 1800m

Kingofwallstreet, 3-year-old colt (Dundeel {NZ} x Our Girl Racquie {Fastnet Rock})

Kingofwallstreet makes his second start at Flemington on Sunday over 1800 metres. His form only looks fair, but on debut he was not beaten far when running a closeup seventh placing on the Pakenham Synthetic track on August 30 where he held his ground strongly behind Vino Grande (Vino Rosso {USA}) which suggested more distance will suit.

Kingofwallstreet is by Dundeel out of Our Girl Racquie who has already left three individual winners and also possesses a very deep page, she is a three-quarter sister to the three-time Group 1 winner Shoals (Fastnet Rock) and the Listed-winning gelding Groundswell (Fastnet Rock). She is also a half-sister to the talented gelding Rustic Steel (Deep Field) who has been successful nine times including the G3 Newcastle Newmarket H. and the Listed Scone Cup.

Other classy performers that feature in this pedigree are the stallions Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain, Echoes Of Heaven and Platinum Scissors.

Cumani Racing Pty Ltd/McKeever Bloodstock was the purchaser for $120,000 at the 2023 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Rathmore Lodge.

Our Girl Racquie, since producing Kingofwallstreet, has had some bad luck leaving a live foal but last month safely delivered a filly by the exciting first-season sire in Artorius.

Politely Dun, 3-year-old gelding (Dundeel {NZ) x Politeness {Street Sense {USA}})

The Flemington-based Danny O’Brien trains the Dundeel gelding Politely Dun to make his fifth start at Flemington on Sunday over 1800 metres. He has run four solid races in his career so far and looks a promising stayer of the future. He has placed at Listed level over a mile as a juvenile and he ran a very good second at Flemington over 1800 metres on July 20 and a solid enough third at Geelong on September 1 over 1733 metres.

This well-bred gelding is out of the Street Sense (USA) mare Politeness, who was a eight-time winner including the G1 Myer Classic, G3 PJ Bell S., G3 Summoned S., G3 How Now S., G3 Cape Brim Beef Steaks Series Final and the Listed Bel Esprit S. She also placed in the G1 Emirates S., G2 Rubiton S., G2 Thousand Guineas Prelude, G3 Geoffrey Belmaine S. and the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate.

She has also made a successful start at stud leaving three individual winners all by Arrowfield’s outstanding stallion Snitzel. These are Gentility, Ortaire and the promising Apic Run.

This family is littered with top-level performers including the Group 1-winning juvenile’s On The Bubbles (Brazen Beau) and Daumier and the other Group winners in Parables (Lonhro), Thackeray (At Talaq {USA}), Green Aeon (Snitzel) and Fairytales (Night Shift {USA}).

Politely Dun was a $150,000 purchase by Danny O’Brien Racing from the draft of Arrowfield Stud at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
