Looking Ahead - August 30

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

Friday’s races around the nation includes the debut outing for Group 3 winner Written Beauty (Written Tycoon)’s three-quarter sister, 3-year-old filly Accessorized (Written Tycoon) at Pakenham’s night meeting, while in Queensland at Warwick, 3-year-old gelding Headline Legend (Star Turn) looks to take his good form to a win.

Accessorized, 3-year-old filly (Written Tycoon x Glamorize, by Sepoy)

On debut for trainers Ben, Will and JD Hayes, Accessorized (Written Tycoon) has drawn three and will be ridden by Luke Currie. With five of the 11 runners on debut, the race will be a challenging one for punters, and Accessorized comes into this fresh. As an April 2-year-old, she ran second in a barrier trial.

Accessorized was purchased by Mark Pilkington Management (FBAA) for $200,000 from Milburn Creek at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. She is by Champion Sire Written Tycoon who had a fantastic season in 2023/24 being Champion Sire of 2YOs and adding three Group 1 winners with Lady Of Camelot, Southport Tycoon, and Velocious. Sire of 63 stakes winners including 15 Group 1 winners, Written Tycoon stands at Yulong in Victoria for a private fee in 2024.

Glamorize (Sebring) was placed at three and Accessorized is her first foal. She has a 2-year-old colt by Ole Kirk, a yearling colt by Zoustar and has just produced a filly by Snitzel in 2024. Beautifully bred, Glamorize is a half-sister to five stakes winners led by Accessorized’s three-quarter sister and Group 3 winner Written Beauty (Written Tycoon). The others are Group 3 winner of 10 races Lite’n My Veins (Henrythenavigator {USA}), Group 3 winner Hi World (High Chaparral {Ire}), Listed winner Ducimus (Snitzel) and Listed winner Loveyamadly (Bel Esprit). Loveyamadly is the dam of Group 3 winner Immortal Love (Snitzel) and Listed winner I’mlovin’ya (Capitalist).

Headline Legend, 3-year-old gelding (Star Turn x Commanding Jewel, by Commands)

Trainer Lee Freedman is dropping Headline Legend (Star Turn) back in class for Friday’s Warwick run after he placed at the Gold Coast in both his first two starts. Drawn the carpark with barrier 12, jockey Damien Thornton is booked to ride him.

Owned by Legend Racing, whose Celestial Legend (Dundeel {NZ}) won the G1 Randwick Guineas and G1 Doncaster H. last season, Headline Legend was a $250,000 purchase by Legend Racing from Vinery Stud’s 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale draft.

Star Turn has been a good sire for Vinery Stud with eight stakes winners from his first few crops led by Group 1 winner Startantes, and in 2023/24, he sired the exciting Listed-winning juvenile Megastar Heart.

Headline Legend is only the second foal to race for G1 MRC Thousand Guineas winner Commanding Jewel (Commands) whose other foal is four-time winner, including one in Sydney, Patino Ruby (More Than Ready {USA}), and she has a yearling colt by Toronado (Ire).

Commanding Jewel is one of two foals for her dam, winning mare Regard (Zabeel {NZ}), and her half-sister is the brilliant racemare Atlantic Jewel (Fastnet Rock) who was the Champion 3-Year-Old Filly of her year with 10 wins including four at Group 1-level. Atlantic Jewel is the dam of Hong Kong triple Group 1 winner Russian Emperor (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) who has recently retired to Living Legends.
