Five for J-Mac at Rosehill

Jockey James McDonald rode five winners (half the card) at Rosehill on Saturday. He won on Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich trained Intervasity (Mikki Isle {Jpn}), and Godolphin’s Tom Kitten (Harry Angel {Ire}).

Three of his five winners, Gatsby’s (Snitzel), Kazou (Zoustar) and Etna Rosso (Ire) (Decorated Knight {GB}) were trained by Chris Waller.

Four winners at Rosehill for Waller

Trainer Chris Waller enjoyed four winners at Rosehill, on a day when several of his Group 1 stars galloped between races. Fangirl (Sebring), Via Sistina (Ire) (Fastnet Rock), Riff Rocket (American Pharoah {USA}), Joliestar (Zoustar), Zougotcha (Zoustar) and Atishu (NZ) (Savabeel) all showed off for the crowd between races.

Waller’s winners were Autumn Glow (The Autumn Sun), Gatsby’s (Snitzel), Kazou (Zoustar) and Etna Rosso (Ire) (Decorated Knight {GB}).

Treble for O’Shea and Charlton at Kembla Grange

Trainers John O’Shea and Tom Charlton came home from Kembla Grange on Saturday with three winners. They were Kenmare Bay (New Bay {GB}), Aunty Rene (So You Think {NZ}), and Komodo Dragon (Hellbent).

First win for Munce training partnership

Chris and son Corey Munce celebrated their first victory as a training partnership after 3-year-old filly Kahlisee (Dracarys) gave her rivals a galloping lesson at Doomben on Saturday. "It's great to get the first win for the two of us officially," Chris Munce beamed after the race.

"We've had a couple of weeks here with not a lot of runners and some wet tracks have brought us unstuck but we're off the mark now together which is good.” Kahlisee took her record to two wins from four starts.

Sharrock wins 1000th race in NZ with Justaskme

Trainer Allan Sharrock won his 1000th New Zealand race with Justaskme (NZ) (No Excuse Needed {GB}) at New Plymouth on Saturday. “He’s been a grand horse for me, my brother and one of my best mates in Kempy (Tony Kemp),” Sharrock told Loveracing.nz.

“We’ll go home and watch the rugby tonight but I’d say we will have a proper event with all my friends and colleagues to celebrate.” Bred by Sharrock, who co-owns him with his brother Bruce and former Kiwi rugby league international Tony Kemp, Justaskme has now won 13 of his 48 starts and more than NZ$538,000 in prizemoney.

3-year-old winners around the nation

Several 3-year-olds won around the nation on Saturday, in addition to those featured in our race day summary. At Doomben, Defiant Boom (Spirit Of Boom) took his record to two wins from six starts, while at Kembla Grange Dance to The Boom (Exceedance) won on debut for trainer Bjorn Baker.

Widden Stud's Zousain had a fantastic Saturday, his star daughter Drifting featured in the Saturday summary won the G3 Quezette S. and he also posted a new winner at Kembla Grange. On debut the Jason Coyle-trained Catch That Glory was successful in Race 3 at the venue.

Rocky Blonde (Dracarys) won at Gympie, while I’lltellyougo (Wanted) won in Cairns.In West Australia Bondi Bay (Bondi) took his record to two wins from six starts. At Morphettville, 3-year-olds won the first and third races on the card, being Miss Cotoletta (Flying Artie) and Goldrush Guru (American Pharoah {USA}).

Treble for Huxtable at Cannon Park, Cairns

Jockey Justin Huxtable rode a treble in Cairns on Saturday aboard Bakersfield (Capitalist), Montenegro Man (Zoustar) and Burns To Embrace (GB) (Pivotal {GB}). Bakersfield and Burns To Embrace are trained by Fred Wieland and Montenegro Man is trained by Jamie McConachy.

Treble for Cavanough at Longreach

The five race card at Longreach on Saturday was dominated by Scone trainer Brett Cavanough as he won three races with Sunyani (All Too Hard), Harbour Gold (Star Witness) and Burdekin (Written Tycoon).

Treble for Lai at Quorn

South Australia’s Quorn meeting was a good one for apprentice jockey Alan Lai who won three races on the six-race card with all three winners trained by K McKerlie and W Hornhardt. They were Emme’s Secret (Zebedee {GB}), Grinzinger Star (NZ) (Reliable Man {GB}) and Cry Cry Baby (Adelaide {Ire}).

Showcasing 3-year-old wins Irish Group 3

Super Sox (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) was a decisive winner of the Listed Platinum S. under Billy Lee at Cork on Friday. The 3-year-old filly is trained by Patrick Twomey and has won two of her four starts. “She is big, we gave her time and she has furnished her frame as she was quite light in the spring. She needed to fill and hopefully it's onwards and upwards. She has an entry in the Ballyogan but I doubt she'll run, as it is next weekend,” stable representative Tom Weeks told irishracing.com.

"Billy said she could come back to six furlongs next year and we think she has a good future."

Shamida will target Group 1s after G3 Give Thanks S. win

HH Aga Khan’s 4-year-old mare Shamida (Ire) (Australia {GB}) will step up to Group 1 company after winning the G3 Give Thanks S. at Cork on Friday. “She is a very brave and honest filly and a very good one. We thought she’d win today, we were surprised she wasn’t favourite, but there you go, and she is a triple Group 3-winning filly now,” Kris Weld, assistant to trainer Dermot Weld, told irishracing.com. Shamida has now won four of her eight starts.

“The distance (mile and a half) was slightly short for her, but she showed a good turn of foot at the top of the straight. She isn’t a slow filly. She has plenty of entries in the autumn, we’ll see how she comes out of this race and pick something nice. She’ll be going back up to Group 1 level again.”

Cheap 2-year-old wins English Listed race

George Waud's Englemere (Ire) (Goken {Fr}) won Friday's Listed Highclere Thoroughbred Racing St Hugh's Stakes at Newbury to take her record to two wins from six starts. “She was a cheap buy when she was younger, but has always showed a lot of class at home,” said rider Billy Loughnane. “[Owner] George [Waud] bought her for a little bit more money after she won her [Apr. 30] novice at Catterick.”

Englemere, a £1000 (AU$1950) ThoroughBid November Online yearling, is the 12th of 13 foals and second black-type scorer from five winners out of Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles victrix Ascot Family (Ire) (Desert Style {Ire}). Her sire, Goken (Fr) stands at Haras de Colleville for €15,000 and Englemere became his tenth stakes winner.
