Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
Hawkesbury’s juvenile race features a half-million dollar weanling who ran second on debut and a nice trial winner by Snitzel. An expensive I Am Invincible colt has his second start at Ballarat after running fourth in a Group 3 race on debut.
Hawkesbury, Race 1, 12:20pm, AEST, Congratulations Eliza and Shannon CG&E Maiden P., $42,000, 1300m
Captain Eagle, 3-year-old gelding (Per Incanto {USA} x Nasaayim, by Redoute’s Choice)
Captain Eagle made headlines in 2021 when he was the fourth highest priced weanling at the Magic Millions Shadwell Stud Unreserved Dispersal Sale, selling for $500,000 to Segenhoe Thoroughbreds.
Captain Eagle wasn’t spotted in a public forum again until he ran second on debut a fortnight ago. His sire, Per Incanto, has had a strong season with Belclare picking up her second Group 1 win.
Captain Eagle is the first foal of city winner Nasaayim, who won three races, two as a 2-year-old, and is a half-sister to Group 3 winner and young sire Dracarys. Their dam, Nocturnelle (Elusive Quality {USA}) is a dual Listed winner.
Also in this race is LA featured million dollar colt Everybody Rise (Snitzel) who was scratched from Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting in preference for this, and trial winner Yorkshire (Snitzel) who is on debut.
Ballarat, Race 1, 12pm, AEST, Brian Templeton’s Final Dash Maiden 2YO P., $37,500, 1100m
Let’sfacethemusic, 2-year-old colt (I Am Invincible x Torvill, by Not A Single Doubt)
Let’sfacethemusic debuted back in January in the G3 Blue Diamond Preview (c&g) running fourth behind High Octane (Deep Field), Holmes A Court (Capitalist), and Innervisions (I Am Invincible). Holmes A Court went on to win the G3 Black Opal S. Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Let’sfacethemusic returns to the races on Thursday for his second lifetime start.
His co-trainer Mick Price purchased him for $475,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from Kitchwin Hills, a fair price for a son of a four-time Champion Sire.
Let’sfacethemusic is the third foal for dual Listed winner Torvill (Not A Single Doubt) whose first two foals are winners. She also ran second in the G1 Surround S. Torvill’s half-brother Bolero King (Nicconi) is a group placed winner of six races, while this is the family of G1 Queensland Derby winner Ruthven (Domesday).
Also in this race is $2.5million purchase Railway Man (I Am Invincible) who has run fifth in both his starts to date.
