Simon Miller was more than pleased to part-ways with $40,000 to bring home Lot 342, a filly from the first crop of Widden Stud’s G1 Oakleigh Plate victor Portland Sky at the concluding session of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

Presented by Glenn Lee Thoroughbreds, the August-born filly is the seventh foal from the unraced No Excuse Needed (GB) mare Unapologetic (NZ).

Miller told The Thoroughbred Report, “She’s very athletic, strong and had all the power in the right places.”

Although it didn’t factor into his decision to purchase Lot 342, Miller shared he’s got the half-brother to Portland Sky, the six-time winner Above The Peg (Blackfriars), “Ironically, I’ve got the half-sibling to the stallion, not that made any difference; it was just funny.

“She’s just a lovely type of filly and looks like she’ll be a running type of filly.”

“She’s (Lot 342) very athletic, strong and had all the power in the right places.”

Commenting on the price of $40,000, Miller added, “I think I did well. I don’t have to pinhook, I’m always an end-user, so I can skip some of the mean ones, and I can keep bidding. So, I thought $40,000 was good for her.

“I’ll bring her back to Western Australia and we’ll put her through the system.”
