Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner early in its career chasing maiden success, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Sunday, the expensive juvenile Fitzpatrick (Snitzel) is set to debut at Bendigo, while at Wagga Wagga, 2-year-old filly Lovely (Spirit Of Boom) comes back in grade seeking her first win.
Bendigo JC, Race 1, 12.25pm AEST, Budget Car & Truck Rental 2YO Maiden Plate, $37,500. 1100m.
Fitzpatrick, 2-year-old colt (Snitzel x Cocoa Doll {More Than Ready {USA}})
Purchased by the Rosemont Alliance and Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from proven producers Mill Park Stud for $950,000, Fitzpatrick has been given what should be a soft raceday debut on Sunday.
Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Fitzpatrick is by four-time Champion Sire Snitzel. A half-brother to G3 Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies)-placed Written Swoosh (Written Tycoon), Fitzpatrick is out of three-time winning mare Cocoa Doll (More Than Ready {USA}).
Cocoa Doll is a half-sister to G2 Percy Sykes S. and R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Away Game (Snitzel), making Fitzpatrick into Away Game’s three-quarter brother as well as to Away Game’s full brother Listed winner Modern Wonder (Snitzel).
Away Game was also Group 1-placed on several occasions and sold as a broodmare prospect to the Written Tycoon Syndicate for $4million at the 2022 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, consigned by Newgate Farm.
Bendigo JC, Race 1, 12.25pm AEST, Budget Car & Truck Rental 2YO Maiden Plate, $37,500. 1100m.
Lovey, 2-year-old filly (Spirit Of Boom x Te Amo {Not A Single Doubt})
(Team Hayes have taken 2-year-old filly Lovey to Wagga Wagga in an attempt to break her maiden status - keep depending on scratchings or delete if goes to Bendigo). Lovey has had two previous starts in stronger company, running fourth on debut at Ballarat back in November, a race won by Macocha (NZ) (Street Boss {USA}) who ran fifth in the Ballarat Magic Millions 2YO Classic at her next start.
Lovey had her second career start in mid-April, running fourth at Cranbourne in a race won by Brighella (Brazen Beau) who ran fourth in Saturday’s Mornington Sires Plate.
Taken to the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by Eureka Stud, Lovey sold to Lindsay Park Racing for $230,000, and Eureka Stud have stayed in the large syndicate that now owns her.
Lovey’s dam, Te Amo (Not A Single Doubt) won two races and her first foal is 3-year-old gelding Northernontap (Encryption) who won on debut in mid-March 2024. Te Amo is out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Arapaho Miss (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), dam of Group 1 winner Miami Bound (Reliable Man {GB}) and Listed winner De Little Engine (Encosta De Lago).
