Albury: Listed Albury Gold Cup, $200,000, 2000m

He was odds-on and he won like it, Fawkner Park (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) racing away over the final stages of Albury's major event of the year.

Bred by Lisbrook, he was purchased by Joseph O'Brien for €46,000 (AU$76,323) at the 2020 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale and by Blandford Bloodstock, Bennett Racing and Annabel Neasham Racing for 120,000gns at the 2022 Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale.

The 59th stakes winner for his late sire, he is a half-brother to the 2022 G2 Herbert Power S. winner Saracen Knight (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) out of the lightly raced Za’Hara (Ire) (Raven’s Pass {USA}).

Za’Hara’s Group 1 placed dam Opera Comique (Fr) (Singspiel {Ire}) is a half-sister to the Group 1 galloper Belmez (USA) (El Gran Senor {USA}) and she also produced the G1 Arlington Million winner Debussy (Ire) (Diesis {GB}) and the G3 Princess Elizabeth S. winner Laugh Aloud (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}).

Fawkner Park is a descendant of the champion Pearl Cap (Fr) (Le Capucin {Fr}) who is still considered to be one of the best fillies to have raced in France - at stud producing the G1 Epsom Derby hero Pearl Diver (Fr) (Vatello {Fr}).
