New Plymouth: G3 Taranaki Cup, NZ$120,000, 1800m
It was a local win with Contribute (NZ) (Contributer {Ire}) appreciating a step up in distance having finished off well over the mile at her previous outing.
A homebred for Ross Bellingham and A R Gemmell, Contribute is the eighth stakes winner for her Mapperley Stud-based, dual Group 1-winning sire, a son of High Chaparral (Ire).
She is one of the three winners for the winning Contrada (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}), half-sister to the durable Listed winners Baltaine (NZ) (Lord Ballina) (13 wins) and Betcha Wood (NZ) (Woodbury Lad {USA}) (eight wins).
Due to have foaled last spring to Proisir, Contrada produced an Ardrossan filly in 2022. She hails from the same family as the stakes winners Kenadaad (NZ) (Istidaad {USA}), Tipit (NZ) (War Hawk {GB}), Gina Lollobrigida (NZ) (Le Filou {Fr}) and Semprini (NZ) (Khorossan {Ire}).
G3 Taranaki 2YO Classic, NZ$100,000, 1200m
Remaining undefeated after three starts, the odds-on favourite Captured By Love (Written Tycoon) is already a dual Group winner.
Bred by Makybe Racing & Breeding and sold by Milburn Creek to David Ellis CNZM (BAFNZ) for $525,000 at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, she is one of the 59 stakes winners for her Yulong-based Champion Sire.
She is the first foal for the lightly raced Bendigo and Flemington winner Moldova (Snitzel) who produced her third foal - a filly by Toronado (Ire) in late September with her second being a colt last year by Too Darn Hot (GB).
Served by Justify (USA), Moldova is out of the lightly raced La Fluorescent (NZ) (General Nediym) and that dam of another three winners is a half-sister to the G2 Moonee Valley Vase and G3 Spring S. winner Savvy Nature (NZ) (Savabeel) and the G3 Ming Dynasty H. winner Addictive Nature.
Captured By Love's fourth dam is the dual Listed winner La Lagune (Danehill {USA}) whose daughter Halloween (Encosta De Lago) is an outstanding broodmare - producing four stakes winners; the G1 NZ 1000 Guineas heroine Hasahalo (NZ) (Savabeel) and the Group 3 gallopers Hasabro (NZ) (Savabeel), All Saints' Eve (NZ) (Sacred Falls {NZ}) and All Hallows' Eve (NZ) Sacred Foals).
One of the two stakes winners (from 20 runners/12 winners) for Written Tycoon out of a Snitzel mare - Velocious from the same crop the other - Captured By Love is bred on a cross (via Try My Best {USA} and Redoute's Choice) of the wonderful mare Best In Show (USA) (Traffic Judge {USA}).
Listed Oaks Prelude, NZ$80,000, 1800m
The lightly raced Khanshe (NZ) (Mongolian Khan) looks a nice G1 New Zealand Oaks prospect on the back of this nice win at just her fifth start.
Suited by the step up in trip, the homebred for R L Orr is the second stakes winner for her Windsor Park Stud-based, triple Group 1-winning sire, a son of Holy Roman Emperor (Ire).
A half-sister to the Hong Kong winner Cheval Valiant (NZ) (Charm Spirit {Ire}), Khanshe is out of the unraced Folies Bergere (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}) whose dam is the Listed ARC Newmarket H. winner Dashing Donna (NZ) (Don Eduardo {NZ}).
Last spring foaling a colt by Noverre (NZ) and the year before a filly by Circus Maximus (Ire), Folies Bergere hails from the family of the stakes winners Pure Luck (NZ) (Golden Plume {GB}), Big Appeal (NZ) (Lanfranco {GB}) and Pure Lust (NZ) (Pompeii Court {USA}).
Khanshe's pedigree is inclusive of strains of the full brothers Todman and Faringdon, allowing for a 7 X 7 cross of the outstanding broodmare Oceana (Ire) (Colombo {GB}).
Wingatui: G3 White Robe Lodge S., NZ$120,000, 1600m
It was a case of déjà vu with last year's winner again finding the line - Perfect Scenario (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}) joining The Diamond One (Tale Of The Cat {USA}), Hold It Harvey (King Cugat {USA}), A Gordon For Me (NZ) (Le Grand Seigneur {Can}), St James (NZ) (Sound Reason {Can}), The Fantasy (NZ) (Gate Keeper {GB}) and Grey Way (NZ) (Grey William {GB}) as multiple winners of this race.
Bred by G E Graydon and E C Pollard and purchased by David Ellis CNZM (BAFNZ) for NZ$165,000 from the Woburn Farm draft at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Premier Yearling Sale, Perfect Scenario is one of the 96 stakes winners for his Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket-based sire who shuttled to New Zealand on 12 occasions.
He is one of two winners for the retired G3 Stoney Ridge S. winner Rosetti Bay (NZ) (Pins) whose daughter Queens Rose (NZ) (O'Reilly {NZ}) won the Listed Tauranga Classic and whose granddaughter Rose 'N' Power (NZ) (Power {GB}) won the Listed Levin S.
Also from this family are the stakes winners Haymaker (NZ) (Stunning {GB}), Minuetto (NZ) (Kazakstaan {GB}), Summer Hay (NZ) (Kazakstaan) and Only Glory (Honour And Glory {USA}).
Listed Dunedin Gold Cup, NZ$100,000, 2400m
Rounding up his rivals from the rear, Shockallia (NZ) (Shocking) was tough to the line with this, his stakes race breakthrough - and his second win in a row.
Bred by Rich Hill Thoroughbreds and (having been passed in as a yearling and as a ready to run horse) raced by them with the Carriers Arms Racing Syndicate, he is the 23rd stakes winner for his Rich Hill-based, G1 Melbourne Cup-winning sire.
He is one of three winners (all by Shocking) for the unplaced Berzallia (Bernardini {USA}) whose dam is the dual Listed winner Zalinda (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) whose son Fast 'N' Famous won the G3 Gilgai S. at Flemington and whose grandson Habana (Zoustar) won the recent G2 Rich Hill Mile.
Zalinda is out of the G1 Railway H. winner Alynda (Nassau), dam of the stakes winners Alinsky (NZ) (Stravinsky {USA}), Capestad (NZ) (Kaapstad {NZ}) and Altristra (NZ) (Sir Tristram {Ire}) and ancestress of the stakes winners Tuchel (NZ) (Redwood {GB}) and Unfair Dismissal (All Too Hard).
Foaling a full sister to Shockallia last spring, Berzallia had another Shocking colt the previous year and her 3-year-old The Weapon (NZ) - a maiden winner in November - is also by him.
Listed Dunedin Guineas, NZ$100,000, 1500m
Storming home from the rear to impressively record his first win at stakes level, Collect Your Cash (NZ) rewarded his supporters at very nice odds.
Having just his fourth start - slowly away when contesting the Listed Gore Guineas at his previous outing - Collect Your Cash is the first stakes winner for his Windsor Park Stud (his breeder)-based sire, a Group 3-winning son of Street Cry (Ire).
He is the second stakes winner for the stakes-placed, four-time winner Prompt Payment (Ire) (In The Wings {GB}) whose son Debt Collector (NZ) (Thorn Park) is a 12-time winner who was named Singapore Horse of the Year, Champion 3-Year-Old, Champion Older Horse and Champion Miler.
Also dam of the metropolitan winner Highland Park (NZ) (Volksraad {GB}), Prompt Payment is no longer around with her final foal being a yet-to-be-named 2-year-old filly by Mongolian Khan.
Prompt Payment, who did her racing in England and France, is out of a daughter of the Listed Hyperion S. winner Queen Helen (Ire) whose sire is the superstar Troy (GB) to whom Collect Your Cash is line-bred 4 X 4... the ninth stakes winner (from 99 winners/192 runners) boasting a cross.
As a descendant of Simon's Shoes (GB) (Simon Square {GB}), Collect Your Cash hails from one of the great families of the Stud Book, one which also produced Sadler's Wells (USA), Prompt Payment's grandsire.
