The catalogue for the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale was released on November 12, 2023. Since then, a host of yearlings that will go through the ring at Bundall have had their pedigrees enhanced, which is important information for vendors and buyers alike.
Lot 164 - King’s Legacy x Serenade (Star Witness), colt - on account of Bhima Thoroughbreds
The recent deeds of classy juvenile Wolfgang (Exceed And Excel) will have all the team at Bhima Thoroughbreds excited about the prospects of selling this colt by Coolmore’s first-season sire King’s Legacy, who is a half-brother to the Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans-trained speedster.
Wolfgang, a $500,000 graduate from the Bhima draft at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, had already made a promising start to his burgeoning career when fifth in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial S. at Flemington prior to the catalogue’s release, but he has subsequently chalked up two impressive victories at Morphettville and Doomben, victories which have seen him emerge as a live contender in Saturday’s $3 million R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast.
This well-bred colt is the third live foal out of the talented juvenile Serenade (Star Witness), who was a dominant 5l winner of a Sydney metropolitan maiden before finishing third in the R. Listed Inglis Classic (now the Inglis Millennium) and seventh, beaten only 2.1l, behind Vancouver in the G1 Golden Slipper S. Serenade is also a half-sister to two stallions in the shape of G1 Kingston Town Classic (now the Northerly S.) hero Stratum Star and Kia Ora Stud’s first-season sire Prague.

Lot 191 - Hello Youmzain (Fr) x Sienna Rose (More Than Ready {USA}), colt - on account of Cambridge Stud
Bred by Brendan and Jo Lindsay, this colt was always going to command plenty of interest given that he hails from the first Southern Hemisphere crop of Cambridge Stud shuttler Hello Youmzain (Fr), whose debut crop of yearlings north of the equator sold up to a high of €300,000 (AU$489,000) earlier this year.
Undoubtedly adding to his appeal is the fact that he is a direct descendant of Legally Bay (Snippets), the multiple stakes winner and Group 1 placegetter who has subsequently earned herself blue hen status in the breeding barn. Legally Bay’s progeny included dual-hemisphere Group 1 winner Merchant Navy and G2 Roman Consul S. heroine Jolie Bay (Fastnet Rock), whose daughter Joliestar (Zoustar) provided this colt with a timely pedigree update when winning the G1 Thousand Guineas in decisive fashion a matter of days after the catalogue for this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale went to print.
Joliestar was purchased by Cambridge Stud as a yearling for $950,000 and they also purchased this colt’s dam Sienna Rose (More Than Ready {USA}), who is a half-sister to juvenile stakes winner Ebhaar (I Am Invincible), for $160,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2020, so it’s a family the Lindsays know very well.

Lot 914 - Wootton Bassett (GB) X Maraam (Street Cry {Ire}), filly - on account of Coolmore Stud
Given his exploits in Europe, where he has sired no less than nine individual Group 1 winners, there has been plenty of talk about Wootton Bassett’s (GB) first Southern Hemisphere crop of yearlings, and Coolmore Stud will be looking forward to presenting this filly by the shuttle stallion after her half-sister Arabian Summer (Too Darn Hot {GB}) has provided two important pedigree updates since the catalogue went to print.
Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Arabian Summer was placed in stakes company on her first two starts but has quickly cemented her status as one of the leading contenders for Saturday’s $3 million R. Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic with a pair of impressive wins at Ballarat and the Gold Coast, the latter coming in last weekend’s Aquis Gold Pearl.
Bred by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, this well-related bay filly also hails from the family of three-time Group 1 winner Forensics (Flying Spur) and her stakes-winning grandson Tamerlane (Golden Horn {GB}), who was another to provide the family with a timely update courtesy of his victory in the $300,000 The Buffering at Doomben last month.
