Lot 338 - Fastnet Rock x Scarletini (Bernardini {USA}) (filly) - $230,000

Buyer: Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock (BAFNZ)

Vendor: Middlebrook Valley Lodge

The Cambridge-based bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne thought he may have had to write a bigger cheque to secure a stunning filly by Coolmore’s Champion Sire Fastnet Rock.

Hawthorne told TDN AusNZ: “I thought I’d have to pay around the $300,000 mark, but to get a 70 grand discount - I am pretty happy.”

Consigned by Middlebrook Valley Lodge the filly is the sixth foal from the Bernardini (USA) mare Scarletini. She was a winner of three races from 1200 to 2400 metres.

Scarletini has produced three winners from four to race, most notably among them is the G1 ATC Derby winner Angel Of Truth (Animal Kingdom {USA}). Angel Of Truth was a high-class galloper with over $2 million in prizemoney, the gelding counts the G2 Tulloch S. among his victories and placings in the G1 Ranvet S. and G1 Chipping Norton S.

“She’s (Lot 338) a Fastnet Rock that wasn’t too heavy. She has a little bit of leg underneath her. She moved really well and at the end of the day she's a daughter of Fastnet Rock and a half-sister to a Group 1 winner.”

It has been well documented the type of fillies ‘Fastnet’ is capable of producing with the likes of Atlantic Jewel, Shoals, Avantage, Mosheen, One Master (GB) and Sea Siren amongst his 22 individual Group 1-winning females.

“The mare (Scarletini) had been to some stallions that weren’t top of the line and she produced winners from them. Fastnet Rock is the first proper stallion she had visited.

“There's no plan and no trainer picked out for her yet. We don’t feel she's a 2-year-old, at this stage she will just go through the educating process,” Hawthorne said.

“She’ll go down to Melbourne and go through the system after that Rocket (Douglas), Pinecliff's Racing Manager, will pick out a trainer for her over the next 3-4 months.”
