Looking Ahead - February 28

4 min read

Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.

For racing on Tuesday, we have three runners all set to debut within half-an-hour. We kick off at Bendigo with a well-related Rubick 2-year-old, before heading to Gosford, where a lovely homebred Lonhro filly for Milburn Creek steps out. We return to Bendigo with a Sebring filly, whose page is littered with black type.

Bendigo, Race 1, 1.30pm AEDT, National Hotel Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1100m

Tymon, 2-year-old colt (Rubick x Reilly O’ {NZ} {O’Reilly {NZ}})

Bred by Desharon Bloodstock, this colt was consigned by Edinglassie Thoroughbreds at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, where Roll The Dice Racing, Rogers Bloodstock and Little Birdie paid $200,000 for him.

Tymon is from a 1000-metre winner at two, who is a sister to the Listed scorer Kildare (NZ) and a half-sister to the Listed victress One Love (NZ) (Danasinga).

This is the dam’s third living foal to race, with her two others - Faribault (Zoustar) and Tenderly (Straum) - both winners.

The colt’s grandam, Jackie O’ (NZ) (Centaine), was placed at three and is a sister to San Century (NZ) - the dam of three stakes winners - Glorious Days (Hussonet {USA}), Spurcent (Flying Spur) and Bangalore Bullet (Hussonet {USA}), who raced in Hong Kong as Bright Star.

Jackie O’ is also a three-quarter sister to the Group 2 winner Fleur De Chine (NZ) (Centaine) and she is the dam of the Group 1 heroine Tully Thunder (Thunder Gulch {USA}) and the Listed winner Sufficient (NZ).

Other stakes-winning relations include Belcentra (Bel Espirit) and Sneetch (NZ) (Grosvenor {NZ}).

Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Tymon, who was unplaced in his lone trial, will be partnered by Beau Mertens.

Gosford, Race 1, 1.50pm AEDT, Envu Tetrino Mdn Plate, $40,000, 1200m

Social Butterfly, 3-year-old filly (Lonhro x Belladini {Bernardini {USA}})

A homebred for Milburn Creek, this filly is trained at Rosehill by Richard and Will Freedman.

Social Butterfly is from a Canterbury placegetter, who is a half-sister to the Listed winner Mrs Kipling (Exceed And Excel) and the three-time scorer Sacha Royale (Fasliyev {USA}) - the dam of the Group 3 victress Ana Royale (Anacheeva).

Belladini has thrown the stakes performer Balaabel (Not A Single Doubt).

The filly’s second dam, Dora Maar (Royal Academy {USA}) was unraced and is a half-sister to the stakes winners Easy Rocking, Fairy King Prawn (Danehill {USA}) and Crevette (Danehill {USA}). The Group 1 winner Easy Rocking would become a Group 2-producing sire, while the Listed winner Crevette has produced the Group 1 victress Cosmic Endeavour (Northern Meteor).

Twiglet (Twig Moss {Fr}) is the filly’s third dam and she won in Group 2 class and was named Australian Broodmare of the Year in 2001.

Social Butterfly, who will be handled by Chad Schofield, has failed to place in any of the four trials ahead of her debut.

Bendigo, Race 2, 2pm AEDT, Club Barham Mdn Plate, $27,000, 1100m

Arctic Breeze, 3-year-old filly (Sebring x Arcadia Rose {Kheleyf {USA}})

This filly was bred by Rifa Mustang and will race in the Kennedy Racing silks (black, white Kennedy logo, logo on sleeves and cap).

She made $305,000 at the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where she was offered by Sledmere Stud.

Arctic Breeze is out of the Listed Belgravia S. victress of 2013, who has had one foal to race, that being this filly’s brother, the Moruya maiden winner Secadia.

Arcadia Rose is a sibling to three Bob Peters-bred stakes winners - the champion mare Arcadia Queen (Pierro), as well as Arcadia Dream (Domesday) and Arcadia Prince (Pierro).

Arctic Breeze’s second dam, Arcadia (Redoute’s Choice), was a three-time winner and is a sister to the dual Listed scorer Antique Belle, as well as the Listed winner Broadway Belle - the dam of the two-time Group 1 hero Regal Power (Pierro) and the Group 2 winner Action (Pierro). Antique Dream - a Listed placegetter - is another sister to Arcadia.

Other stakes winners from this family include Kalatiara (Metal Storm {Fr}) and Kentiara (Metal Storm {Fr}).

The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained filly will be ridden by Mark Zahra.
