Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
For Thursday, we have found a trio of nicely bred 3-year-olds. At Mornington, we have a Snitzel colt who is looking to break his maiden status at the second time of asking, as well as a Tavistock (NZ) filly who is on debut. Our final runner lines up at Gosford and she is a well-related daughter of So You Think (NZ).
Mornington, Race 2, 1.30pm AEDT, Neds Punters Toolbox Plate, $37,500, 1200m
Breaking Ground, 3-year-old colt (Snitzel x Gypsy Tucker {Zabeel {NZ}})
This colt is raced by his breeder, Yulong Investments, having been passed in at $220,000 at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Breaking Ground is out of a winning mare and is a half-brother to Group 2 victor Gypsy Diamond (Not A Single Doubt). The colt’s dam is a half-sister to Darook Park (Darci Brahma {NZ}), who has thrown stakes winner Finance Tycoon by Written Tycoon, who now stands at stud.

The Chris Waller-trained colt, who was fifth on debut at Pakenham on May 19, will be handled by Brett Prebble.

Pretty Tavi (NZ), 3-year-old filly (Tavistock {NZ} x Kallisan {NZ} {Stratum})
Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, this filly wasn’t offered for sale at public auction.
Tavistock (NZ)
Pretty Tavi (NZ) is from a winning mare, while the filly’s second dam, Eloa (NZ) (Volksraad {GB}), won at Group 3 level. Eloa’s half-brother, Dal Cielo (NZ) (Per Incanto {USA}), won the G1 Auckland Diamond S. in 2015. Group 2 winner Perfect World (NZ) (Centaine) also hails from this family.
Pretty Tavi, which hasn’t been seen at the public trials, will be ridden on debut by Jamie Kah.
Gosford, Race 6, 4.35pm AEDT, Woolworths Central Coast Group Mdn H., $40,000, 1200m
Street Gossip, 3-year-old filly (So You Think {NZ} x Wahng Wah {Casino Prince})
This filly was bred by Wall Street Thoroughbreds and was consigned to the Riversdale draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, where she was purchased by trainer Mark Newnham for $140,000.
Her dam was a good racemare, winning five races and $201,815 in prizemoney. The filly’s third dam, Celebria (Peintre Celebre {USA}), won three of her five starts and has produced Listed winner California Turbo (Fastnet Rock), Group 3 victress Florentina (Redoute’s Choice) and Group 1 winner Gathering (Tale Of The Cat {USA}). Florentina has since thrown Group 1 heroine In Italian (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}).

Tom Sherry has the ride aboard Street Gossip, who will make her debut following five trials.
