G3 Newcastle Gold Cup, $250,000, 2300m
Having landed the Listed Wyong Cup earlier in the month, the Chris Waller-trained Durston (GB) (Sea The Moon {Ger}) chalked up his second victory at black-type level when he took out the G3 Newcastle Gold Cup on Friday.
Bred by Kirsten Rausing, who stands Sea The Moon (Ger) at her Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, Durston is raced by Highclere and he is from the winning mare Caribana (GB) (Hernando {Fr}), making him a half-brother to Group 3 winner Cubanita (GB) (Selkirk {USA}), who was also placed at Group 1 level.
Further back the gelding derives from the same family as G1 Yorkshire Oaks winner Key Change (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}).
The gelding was purchased at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Blandford Bloodstock for 52,000gns (AU$88,400) in 2017.
G3 Cameron H., $200,000, 1500m
In winning the G3 Cameron H. at Newcastle on Friday, the Brett Lazzarini-trained Wild Chap handed his Swettenham Stud-based sire, Toronado (Ire), with his 27th stakes winner.
The gelding was purchased for $80,000 by Greg McFarlane Racing and Feale Park at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale in 2018 and he is out of the Listed-winning mare Pipkin (Gallo Di Ferro {USA}), making him a half-brother to stakes-placed mare Nipperkin (Artie Schiller {USA}).
Toronado’s stakes-winning progeny is headed by three top-flight winners; Tribhuvan (Fr), Masked Crusader and Shelby Sixtysix.
G3 Tibbie S., $200,000, 1400m
Hope In Your Heart (Dundeel {NZ}) added a much-deserved stakes race to her record when she landed the G3 Tibbie S. on Friday.
Previously placed at stakes level in the G3 Kembla Grange Classic, the daughter of Arrowfield Stud-based sire Dundeel (NZ) is out of the placed Montjeu (Ire) mare Hayaat and she is a half-sister to Capacity (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), the dam of dual Group 2 winner Single Minded (NZ) (Bachelor Duke {USA}).
In landing the Group 3, Hope In Your Heart became the 18th stakes winner for the Dundeel, whose stakes winners are headed by five Group 1 scorers.
