Listed Jacksons Security Tasmanian Newmarket H., $125,000, 1200m
This is a very strong renewal of this race, featuring the winners of the past four editions. Legendary Tasmanian sprinter-miler I'm Wesley (I Am Invincible) is aiming for his fourth victory in it, resuming for Glenn Stevenson, while Gee Gee Secondover (Wordsmith), who won the race last year, is also fresh into this contest.
At the top of the weights is triple stakes winner Mandela Effect (Turffontein), who also resumes, in his case for trainer Scott Brunton, who has five horses in the race.
Stablemate The Inevitable (Dundeel {NZ}) is also looking for his fourth stakes win and is a three-time winner when resuming from a spell, while Brunton also presents the ultra-consistent Street Tough (Tough Speed {USA}), the progressive First Accused (Turffontein) as well as former Singapore stakes winner Lim's Cruiser (Casino Prince).
Stevenson's best chance, according to the market is not the prolific I'm Wesley, a winner of five stakes races before, but War Correspondent (Time For War), who was successful at Moonee Valley back in March and contested stakes races at Caulfield over the spring.
However, it is the Tanya Hanson-prepared And Beyond (Wordsmith), who is expected to be the one to beat. He has won seven of his eight starts and warmed-up for this assignment with an all-the-way success at Hobart last month. This is his first attempt at stakes company.
