Behemoth's autumn campaign set out

David Jolly has confirmed Behemoth (All Too Hard) will take a path to the All-Star Mile through a pair of Group 1 races in the autumn.

Speaking to Racenet, Jolly said the $5 million All-Star Mile was the major target next campaign for the dual Group 1 winner,

“At this stage we will head to the All-Star Mile and there are a couple of nice races for him in the lead up,” Jolly said.

“The CF Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes both look like suitable targets for him as well.”

Behemoth, who won both the G1 Memsie S. and G1 Sir Rupert Clarke S. this spring, was last seen when 10th in The Everest.

Catalyst thriving in break

Clayton Chipperfield confirmed stable star Catalyst (NZ) (Darci Brahma {NZ}) was thriving during his extended break away from the track following his early return from Australia in September due to some niggling leg issues.

“I went out to The Oaks Stud the other day and he is looking a picture,” he said.

“He’s put on plenty of condition, is bright and shiny in his coat and he is thoroughly enjoying himself.

“At this stage we will take a look at him in January, where we will do all the testing to make sure he is one hundred per cent, before we make any plans for him.

“He just needs time as he is worth waiting for and when he does come back, I’m sure he will be back to his best pretty quickly.

“That timing is good as he should be coming back when the jar is coming out of the tracks which will suit him perfectly.”

Il Paradiso on comeback trail

Chris Waller is aiming up one-time Melbourne Cup favourite Il Paradiso (USA) (Galileo {Ire}) at the G1 Sydney Cup in 2021.

Il Paradiso, who was third in the 2019 Melbourne Cup when trained by Aidan O'Brien, suffered an injury during trackwork at Rosehill in March which has kept him sidelined.

Waller told Racenet that the 5-year-old is nearing a return to the stable.

“We are getting him ready for a Sydney Cup and a Tancred Stakes and things like that,” Waller said.

“He is not far away from coming back into the stables. He is obviously lightly raced, he has had a long break.”

Chittick's delight for Bowman

Waikato Stud Principal Mark Chittick is delighted for trainer Daniel Bowman after he secured a stakes success with Waikato-bred Ocean Beyond (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) in Saturday's Listed McKenzie S. at Moonee Valley.

Bowman and Chittick struck up a friendship when the Warrnambool-based trainer was in New Zealand last year on a tour organised by New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing.

“We’ve developed a relationship with Dan Bowman who is a good young trainer and is passionate about New Zealand horses,” he said.

“He followed this horse through after he was passed in at the Ready to Run Sale last year.

“He’s a good guy to deal with and I spoke to him after the race yesterday and he was just bloody rapt.

“We actually met him during a trainers’ tour last year and he spent some time with us when one of the tour days was postponed due to some inclement weather so I’m just thrilled to see him going so well.”

Back-to-back for Camino Rocoso

Chris Johnson guided enigmatic galloper Camino Rocoso (NZ) (Shocking) to victory in the Loveracing.nz Cromwell Cup on Sunday, with the John and Karen Parsons-trained 7-year-old defending his title from last year.

Johnson let the Shocking gelding stride along in front, at times with a break of more than 8l and he scored by a 3l margin on the line.

“He’s a good horse but we’ve been having trouble getting him to settle after he got fired up a few starts ago,” Karen Parsons said.

“With Chris back on, he judged things nicely and that’s what experience and skill, like he has, can do for you.

“To be honest he had a few lengths on the rest of the field but Chris got him into a beautiful rhythm and he did it fairly easily in the end.”

The Parsons team will now set their charge for the Trentham meeting in January where he will look to defend his crown in the G3 Dixon and Dunlop Trentham S.

The victory brought Johnson within one of equalling the New Zealand record for winning rides which is currently held by David Walsh at 2451.
