WA: G1 Railway S.

Race summary:

Regal Power with Perth's golden boy William Pike in the saddle claimed the $1 million Group One Railway Stakes at Ascot with a barnstorming finish.

Pike chose to ride WA Derby winner Regal Power over stablemate Tellem We're Comin and it proved the right decision, with the 4-year-old coming from back in the pack to defeat Godolpin's Best Of Days. While a wide barrier forced Pike to settle at the tail of the field in the early stages, the Pierro gelding flew home in an impressive finish.

Pedigree notes:

Regal Power became the sixth Group 1 for Coolmore sire Pierro when taking out the Railway Stakes at Ascot. This is the fourth Group 1 winner and 16th stakeswinner bred on the Pierro/Lonhro x Redoute's Choice cross - following on from close relation Arcadia Queen and Levendi.

His brother Action (Pierro) won the G2 WA Derby which had been previously won by Regal Power, with another close relation Arcadia Prince winning the G3 Perth Racing AJ Scahill S.

This rich homebred family of Bob & Sandra Peters contains dozens of Group winners, including Arcadia Dream. Broadway Belle has a 2-year-old colt by Vancouver, a yearling filly by American Pharoah (USA) and foaled a sister to Regal Power this season.

WA: G2 WA Guineas

Race summary:

War Saint ran down the straight with only Red Can Man (Gingerbread Man) in pursuit and looked set for a soft win.

He held that lead until inside the final 50 metres when stable-mate Kay Cee (Playing God), led the charge of the swoopers. The WA Champion Fillies S. runner-up went within a half head of victory.

Red Can Man did well to hold third place, marginally ahead of the Grant and Alana Williams-trained pair Special Choice (Redoute’s Choice) and Superstorm (Sebring).

Pedigree notes:

Ron Sayers bred War Saint from his Group 3-winning mare Amber’s Halo (Don’t Say Halo {USA}) at his Yarradale Stud at Gidgegannup. She is the dam of Group 3-winner Taiyoo (Haradasun) and multiple stakes placed 2-year-old & 3-year-old Ambers Waltz with placings in the G2 Silver Slipper S and G2 Tea Rose S among her best performances.

22-year-old sire War Chant (USA) is the sire of 42 stakes winners. His best Australian performer is the Group 1-winning mare Silent Sedition.

WA: Listed Placid Ark S.

Electric Light (Vital Equine {Ire}) has improved with each run this preparation and she was at the top of her game here. The 5-year-old, who was third-up for the preparation, settled down toward the back of the field, but once rider William Pike angled her into clear air she stormed home.

Beautiful Mind (So You Think {NZ}) enjoyed a good run closer to the pace and she rounded off well for second and the well-supported Dance Music (War Chant {USA}) boxed on closer to the fence fo third.

Speedy Meady (NZ) (Swiss Ace) made the pace and he fought on valiantly for second with Campari (NZ) (O’Reilly {NZ}) arriving late for third.

Pedigree notes:

The winner is a half-sister to the multiple winner Howbowdat (NZ) (Any Suggestion) and they are the only foals to race for It’s My Destiny (NZ) (Magic Ring {Ire}).

NZ: G3 Counties Cup

NZ: G2 Breeders S.

Race summary:

Yearn (NZ) (Savabeel) had a tricky gate to work with, but rider Sam Spratt was able to ride her with cover behind the leading division.

QLD: Listed Recognition S

Race summary:

Tambo’s Mate (Mossman) has been in outstanding touch this preparation and the 4-year-old collected another victory to add to his impressive record.

He was away quickly to sit on the pace from a wide gate and he never looked like shirking his task in the straight for the seventh win of his 12-start career.

Vega One (Lope De Vega {Ire}) also had a tricky gate to overcome and he did that in style to finish a close second with the favourite Deep Image (Testa Rossa) third. He was tardily away before spearing through the lead and wilted late in the piece.

Pedigree notes :

Tambo’s Mate is one of three winners and by far the best produced by Passagemaker (Canny Lad).

She won two minor sprints and is a daughter of the Listed James Carr S. winner Georgia Belle (Clear Choice {USA}), a half-sister to the multiple winner and black type performer Does She Bite (Yeats {USA}).
