Looking Ahead puts the spotlight on runners of interest across Australia and New Zealand. Whether they are a particularly well-bred or high-priced runner having their first or second start, a promising galloper returning to the track or a horse which has trialled particularly well, we’ll aim to give you something to follow.
On Saturday, we kick things off at Randwick, where a promising colt looks to break through at his second start, check out a Godolphin debutant at Flemington and then head to Gosford where Chris Waller has a well-bred filly ready to fire.
Randwick Race 1, 11:25am AEST, Supporterhub Hcp, $125,000, 1400m
Sea Of Life (Sebring) measured up well on his debut last month, finishing second to Erno (Rubick) after overcoming a wide barrier. He gets a much better draw this time around, albeit in what looks a tougher race. He's had a trial win between then and now to keep him sharp.
He was passed in at last year's Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale, but hails from a very nice family being from the unraced Redoute's Choice mare Life On The Edge, who has already produced a promising Fighting Sun colt Super Flare. Life On The Edge is out of the black-type winner Our Quivira (Spinning World {USA}) and is a sister to Glenall (Redoute's Choice) and half-sister to the Listed winner Panpique (Testa Rossa).

Flemington Race 1, 11:35am AEST, Cobcroft Support National Jockeys Trusts Trophy, $125,000, 1200m
On the evidence of his recent jumpout at this track, where he showed any amount of speed before smashing his rivals, Godolphin colt Archery Butts (Shooting To Win) looks likely to give a very good account of himself on debut here.
His sire has made steady progress in his first season with five winners, while his dam's side also has plenty of quality, with Counterpane (Lonhro), who is a sister to the multiple stakes winner in Pinwheel, having already produced four winners. It is also the family of stakes-winners Meidung (Bernardini {USA}), Banish (Lonhro) and West Point (Danehill {USA}).

Gosford Race 5, 2:01pm AEST, Skillion Pools 2YO Mdn, $35,000, 1000m
In a race which features a few horses with interesting pedigrees, debutante Catwalk (Foxwedge) is the one we have singled out. She was a $280,000 buy for Star Thoroughbreds and Chris Waller, being out of Runway Runaway (Starcraft {NZ}), the half-sister to black-type winning pair White Moss (Mossman) and White Sage (Reset).
Runway Runaway has already produced a stakes winner in this filly's full sister Fox Swift, while her yearling I Am Invincible colt fetched $600,000 at this year's Magic Millions Sale. Catwalk boasts a recent trial win over handy stablemate Rotator (Not A Single Doubt) which looks a good recommendation for this race.
