Support for Tye

A number of Australia's leading studs have united to support injured jockey Tye Angland with an outstanding line up of stallion nominations to go under the hammer at next week's Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale.

The seven nominations are a part of the soon to be released supplementary catalogue and will be sold at the conclusion of selling on Day One of the National Broodmare Sale on May 28 with 100 per cent of proceeds donated to Angland.

Six of the seven stallions represented have advertised fees totalling almost $200,000 giving breeders an incredible opportunity to breed to the best and support one of the industry's favourite sons.

"Magic Millions appreciates the goodwill and generosity from across the industry uniting in their support of Tye," Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "A champion in and out of the saddle, Tye is a great friend of Magic Millions and always gives his time to help promote the industry."

The stallion nominations are to Capitalist, Dundeel (NZ), Encryption, Hellbent, Mendelssohn (USA), Press Statement and Sidestep.

Santa Ana Lane in

Top-rated sprinter Santa Ana Lane (Lope De Vega {Ire}) has secured the TAB’s slot for The Everest at Randwick on October 19.

The Anthony Freedman-trained 6-year-old has won five times at Group 1 level and finished sixth in the race last year. He finished fourth in the G1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize at Sha Tin at his most recent appearance.

"It's great to be partnering with TAB, who have been massive supporters of The Everest since the beginning," Freedman said.

Santa Ana Lane joins Pierata (Pierro) and Classique Legend ( Not A Single Doubt) as the early nominations for the $13 million sprint feature.

Ready to roll

Jamaican Rain (Manhattan Rain) has bounced back from a mishap and is ready for the G1 Goodwood at Morphettville.

She was a late scratching from the G1 Sangster S. after she fell over in the walker on race morning.

But after a gallop at Cranbourne on Monday showed she was over the setback, trainer Richard Laming said he was happy to pay a late entry to take her back to Adelaide for the Goodwood.

"Her work on Monday was second to none, so hence why we paid up."

3YO gets the nod

Kris Lees will have three runners in the G1 Doomben Cup and believes Gem Song (Your Song) is his best chance of winning the feature.

"I still feel he is the pick of our three runners," he said. "Gem Song has continued to do well at the Gold Coast, and certainly hasn't gone backwards."

The 3-year-old goes into the Cup off the back of a last-start third in the Listed Members’ H. and had previously won the G3 Gunsynd Classic.

Lees will also be represented by Big Duke (Ire) (Raven’s Pass {USA}) and Sixties Groove (Ire) (Sixties Icon {GB}).

Defending champion

Leading Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan has no hesitation in backing up I'm A Rippa (Love Conquers All) in a bid to defend the G3 BRC Sprint at Doomben.

The gelding was unplaced in last weekend’s G1 Doomben 10,000, but has done well in the week since.

"He took the field along at a good clip and only got beaten three lengths," Gollan said. "It was weight-for-age last time, but he is back in grade, in a handicap and up in distance.”

Providing I'm A Rippa races well, Gollan has the option of also running the 5-year-old in the Stradbroke H. at Eagle Farm on June 8.

Staying loyal

Young Matamata trainer Daniel Miller is sticking to the Kiwis when he starts his smart filly Sheezallmine (NZ) (Super Easy {NZ}) at Doomben on Saturday.

Sheezallmine

He will line the filly up in the JRA 3YO Plate with the former New Zealand jockey Jason Collett booked for the ride.

“When the nominations came out, I was a bit worried whether she’d have enough prize money to get a start, but she’s in and I’m happy to get Jason Collett,” Miller said.

Sheezallmine was flown to Brisbane on Sunday and is stabled at the Gold Coast alongside fellow New Zealand gallopers Mongolianconqueror (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) and Beefeater (NZ) (Alamosa {NZ}).

Brisbane Cup on radar

Co-trainer Shaun Phelan is expecting improvement from the Listed Pakenham H. winner Big Mike (NZ) (Don Eduardo {NZ}) at Rotorua on Saturday ahead of a possible tilt at the G2 Brisbane Cup.

“It was a stuff-up running in the Easter H. last time. The track was too firm for him and he went too fast in front but he did look after himself a bit when he knew he was beaten,” Phelan said.

“His first-up run at Te Rapa was very good and if you forgive him the Easter, his form is all right and he did win this race last year.”

Too Darn Hot Beaten At York

Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) surrendered his unbeaten record to Telecaster (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) in York's G2 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante S. Earning the lead passing the two-furlong pole, he was threatened by the even-money favourite inside the last furlong, but stayed on best to prevail by a length in a renewal every bit as strong as looked likely beforehand.

“He’s obviously a very good horse, but the [Epsom] Derby is only 16 days away and so we’ll have to see how he is,” said winning trainer Hughie Morrison.

Gosden was categoric about Too Darn Hot’s next destination. “They set an even pace and Frankie was settling him, but he was strong and pulling being fresh on his first run of the year,” he said. “He had those two weeks walking and the lack of a race beforehand, but stamina told in the end. We came for a trial and an answer and that is very clearly that we’ll freshen him up and go for the [June 18] St James’s Palace at Royal Ascot.”
